It’s worth buying a used PS4 just to play TLOU 1
Part 2 is just as good, from what I hear
Yeah I'll give it a go when the PC port's released next month or when it shows up on sale. I've got two XBOXes (360 and One) I never play anymore, don't need to add a third old console to add to the mess ;)

It’s called good writing. Something we see less and less of as overgrown young adult fiction fans and self published Amazon authors bring awful, thinly disguised fan fiction to the drooling hordes of shut ins and imbeciles.
So many potentially good video games are ruined by poor writing. Apparently, it’s easier to find programmers, or, more likely, most people have no taste so they just go, “Oh, I’m a great dungeon master, I’ll just write out a quick story and dialog myself.”
Wrong, nerd. We’re not sitting at your dining room table drinking Mountain Dew. We need realistic dialog and character arcs! We demand heart wrenching drama!
Hire some good writers.
Those Amazon shows were produced by a committee of people who knew the right people to get the job at too big Amazon. Execrable writing and dialog. Amazon had let good writers do some good stuff, but these pet projects need to go. Same with the YA crap at Netflix. Pandering to tweens is a sure fire way to make money and produce garbage.
Yep. Buy the IP and bank on the rep. What vexes me is the industry's reaction to criticism.

It's like buying the Ferrari company and producing a cheap, underpowered minivan that only looks good in the rear view mirror, a product whose only worthwhile relationship to what made the brand special is the Ferrari badge...and then retconning Ferrari legacy and vilifying Ferrari fans for calling them out.

If you're really digging this show/game, the HBO podcast is quite insightful and gives a look at some of the creative decisions they had to consider to make this adaptation. It's hosted by Troy Baker, the actor who portrayed Joel in the game version, along with the two showrunners.

I watched episode one of "The Last of Us" on HBO last Sunday night. I read that its based on a video game. Anyway, it took a long time to get into the actual story. In the meantime we learned about characters we (I) liked and then they died. And then it turned into a sort-of cross between The Walking Dead and 28 Days Later. I'm kinda fed up with zombie shows right now, but the entire series is only 9 episodes so maybe I can stand it enough to see what happens.

Anyone else watching?
Yes, I'm enjoying it thus far. I got a bit burned out on the Zombie thing, although it is a genre that I've always enjoyed. The fungal premis is interesting,

Yeah, I watched it. I wasn't very impressed. The story makes no sense. The premise suggests that there was this zombie apocalypse in 2003. Of course, there wasn't. They then move to the year 2023, with the aftermath of the earlier events. It just isn't believable.
Suspension of disbelief is often a necessity when watching fiction. The whole alternate universe idea is one way to let go of the timeline.

Don't use a zippo when you have hand grenades, duh....
The malfunctioning lighter trope is used too often in fiction. I'm not sure if a grenade would always be better, it has the potential to push things out of the way. I'm not sure if I'm correct as I know next to nothing about grenades, gas and fungal zombies.

Wife & I just finished this & probably clocked in about two weeks of actual game time. I'd say of that, 50% was exploring the detailed sets and searching for loot.

It's a BIG game. Story-wise, it's probably more divisive than the first because reasons but is still solid all around.

The attention to detail is stunning. Taylor guitars lend their brand to the game in a few really sweet and tender moments. As the player, you can strum away at all the cowboy chords freely until you let the story continue. Of course my eyes were in total scrutiny mode for all the guitar stuff but I'm happy to say they nailed the animation for proper finger placements and finger picking of each string.

Get the job done.

More context

I just Wednesday watched 2001 in the theatre and loved every overly long and obscure moment of it.

Most of todays media is lacking in my opinion but I consume most anyway o_O

Enjoy what you enjoy

I watched it, cant remember if I'm waiting for another episode, but I think I'm done. Not much into Zombie things, but I liked it. Coulda been better if they eliminated the zombie thing and another source for threats.

I'd had my fill of post-apocalyptic/zombie shows but after the first three episodes I'm all in for The Last of Us. Ep.3 in particular was one of the best single episodes of any show I've seen in a long time.

The show's focus on the humanity of the survivors (for good and bad) reminds me a bit of Station Eleven which also takes place in a post-apocalyptic setting.

I'm betting that the writers of episode three and Nick Offerman will be winning awards.

Since the end of Parks and Recreation Nick Offerman has really impressed me as a dramatic actor. He was fantastic in Devs. Apparently he attended U of I the same years I was there but I'm guessing we ran in different circles!

Kind of exhausted with gloom and doom. There's enough out there to cast dark shadows in my sleepy time without seeking it for entertainment.
