It makes sense. The video games were heavy on great voice acting and writing. The game was all about the story. The owners of the IP obviously value that aspect of the game above all else.

I’m not a gamer but I bought a PS3 back in the day because of The Last of Us. My wife and I were instantly hooked on the compelling story. For us it was a gripping, playable piece of cinema.

So when the show was announced I was apprehensive they’d get it right even considering game’s creator was on board as well as the show runner of the wonderfully written Chernobyl.

In to episode 1, I think they nailed it and in case there was any doubt, episode 3 shrugs off any notion that this is somehow derivative or akin to the walking dead. It honors and enhances what the game brought to the table and can even deviate from the source to offer those long invested in the game something rewarding.

Nick Offerman & Murray Bartlett’s performances, and Craig Mazin’s beautifully worded script rightly all deserve the praises for easy Emmy nods.

I heard nothing but good things about the game, but my last PS was a '2.' They've "remastered" the game for newer PSes and it's now being ported to PC, due to come out in March. Got a new PC recently and am really looking forward to it now, my friends who have played the game say they both play off each other and fill in gaps left by the other.

Oh man, i wish I could experience it with fresh eyes again! To watch/play it with the higher fidelity textures, lighting and resolution will be a real treat.

My wife and I have replayed the original a few times but only recently gotten to play Left Behind, a separate side game that elaborates on Ellie’s backstory, and TLOU part 2 which takes place a few years after the events of game 1 ( and will be the basis for HBO’s season 2 & 3)

Enjoy the ride!!

And one small bit of pedantry: the monsters aren’t zombies (reanimated dead), as they never died to begin with. The fungus controls the very much alive human host while they are involuntarily along for the ride to watch the carnage. To me that thought is much more horrifying. That this is based in reality is even more disturbing.

Saw the 3d episode, not in the least interested in anymore.

I assume you watched the first two and liked them okay?

Watched episode 3 last night, and thought it was really good--the acting in this series is first rate. That episode alone will likely be up for awards. I loved Pedro and Bella from Game of Thrones, and love them in this series too!

Enjoying it so far--hope it stays good and doesn't disappoint like some series do. Great cast who I really connect with. I didn't know it was a game until after the first episode (I'm old haha)

I'm watching and enjoying.

I agree with some of the comments above. This series (like the game) is story-focused. Taking time for character development is what makes us care about the characters and story. There aren't constant explosions and crashes. People generally behave like people. No one seems to be a superhero or Mary Sue. People actually suffer from trauma, and are jaded and burnt. Other people actually care about each other. Most people behave like people probably would, including being predatory or inhumane.

This is something that I think is becoming more rare. See Wheel of Time and LOTR Rings of Power for examples.

I heard so much positive chatter about episode 3, but did not seek out spoilers. I watched it with anticipation. It was a let-down.

Mind you - I am not a visual art person. At all.

Then I read about the story of those two and the relationship and peace it brought them in the middle of a war zone. OK, now I get it, but - ugh. That whole juxtaposition of good and bad often just misses me entirely. I grew up in an abusive home, and had to find my own joy amongst the chaos and land mines I had to tiptoe through on a daily basis. I guess I just don't seek out juxtaposition as "entertainment" - it is more of a trigger for me, so I see past it whether I want to or not.

My wife and I love it!

We don't get too analytical about the reality of the story line- just going for the ride...
Love the young girl- tough as nails, but still a vulnerable kid.

> we saw about 15 minutes ( only) of Episode #3 then watched 1 and 2- will call up 3 again tonight!

We love HBO series-
can't wait for new ( and rewatch old) Perry Mason season

It’s called good writing. Something we see less and less of as overgrown young adult fiction fans and self published Amazon authors bring awful, thinly disguised fan fiction to the drooling hordes of shut ins and imbeciles.
So many potentially good video games are ruined by poor writing. Apparently, it’s easier to find programmers, or, more likely, most people have no taste so they just go, “Oh, I’m a great dungeon master, I’ll just write out a quick story and dialog myself.”
Wrong, nerd. We’re not sitting at your dining room table drinking Mountain Dew. We need realistic dialog and character arcs! We demand heart wrenching drama!
Hire some good writers.
Those Amazon shows were produced by a committee of people who knew the right people to get the job at too big Amazon. Execrable writing and dialog. Amazon had let good writers do some good stuff, but these pet projects need to go. Same with the YA crap at Netflix. Pandering to tweens is a sure fire way to make money and produce garbage.

It’s worth buying a used PS4 just to play TLOU 1
Part 2 is just as good, from what I hear
