I wonder if you've ever played a new Martin Authentic series guitar? Specifically the 1941 D28. I am thinking about ordering one, but can't really try before I buy.

Even better, have you played more than one example, which might indicate how consistent they are?

Cheers!

I did,2 years ago when i was looking for an Adirondack Martin. It was down to the one you mentioned, and a D28 Marquis.I prefered the full(er) bodied sound of the Marquis, and chose that. The 1941 Authentic was a little too light sounding for my taste.Leave it at that.No regrets.

Sure, thanks. Although the Marquis was your preference, would you prefer the tone of the 1941 over the Standard line Martins such as the regular D-28, D28V etc?

I have not played the 41 Authentic. But I have played several of the authentic series, and eventually bought myself a 1937 D-18 Authentic (I've always preferred the snappy sound of D-18 models compared to the D-28, of any given line.) All authentics have their own personality, and they all have their own tone, but there is one thing to be sure of...you can NOT go wrong with any one of them. As far as I'm concerned the Martin Authentics are the finest modern production acoustics made. I would have NO trouble buying one sight unseen, and knowing I would get a lifetime keeper. They are modern holy grail guitars.

No,not necessarily.Again, with all the details, the 1941 Authentic is a different animal.I only say this compared to my other 2 Martins,An HD28V and HD28.The Authentic is such a lively animal,it has a moderately different tone slope.ymmv, play them all and let your ears decide.I don't think ,in this case, that spending more on an Authentic, will necessarily mean better or best tone. Its too subjective.
