Tribalism is A Thing!

I have more than a few Gretsches, and I've never been on the Gretsch forum...that I can remember.

The Epiphone/Gibson forum used to be waaaay more active.

But see, there's a little troll there who happens to have admin permissions. A little troll named Duane. Or "Duanus" if you prefer.

Duanus has managed to alienate most of the old members and now the forum is so dead, nobody wants to bother with it.

Way to promote a guitar brand on a corporate forum, Duanus! 🤡

I work in Terminals all day so I prefer the black backgrounds. The bright light colored BG's hurt my eyes. It's too bright and if I'm working on a laptop it drains the battery faster when the bg is very bright or white.

I even make TDPRI pretty dark compared to the default...

I still use the command line for lots quicker often. Even on my chromebook.

I don't think there's much to talk about when it comes to Epis. The production is almost entirely copies of guitars originally created by Gibson, where they are still made, generally to a higher standard and with better hardware. A lot of Epi buyers purchase their Epis with the intent of swapping out pickups, etc. The special edition and artist guitars that Epi has been producing are better and sometimes somewhat original in terms of a feature or two -- basically built-in rather than aftermarket upgrades. The originals are way more interesting to talk about.

So ... the Epiphone brand has a rich history:

"Epiphone, a musical instrument manufacturer with roots tracing back to 1873. Originally founded in Smyrna (now İzmir, Turkey) by Anastasios Stathopoulos, the company initially focused on traditional stringed instruments like lutes and fiddles. After moving to New York in 1908, the company, under the leadership of Epaminondas (Epi) Stathopoulos, began producing banjos and later guitars, gaining recognition for its innovative archtop designs. In 1957, Epiphone was acquired by Gibson, its main rival at the time. "

Gibson acquired Epiphone (eat the competition) and subsequently RUINED the brand, to a degree.

Epiphone "Elitist" guitars (created after 1957) are easily on par with Gibson quality, possibly even exceeding it at times.

Fun fact:

Les Paul actually created his most famous solid-body electric guitar prototype, nicknamed "The Log," in 1941. He built it using a 4x4 piece of lumber as the solid core, to which he attached an Epiphone guitar neck and parts of an Epiphone hollow-body guitar for the "wings" to make it look more like a traditional instrument.

Have you ever looked at the Epiphone forum? All it is is "I bought this Les Paul or Casino Today" and "What kind of pickup is this?"

Here in Telecasterland, it's a very rich community. Old ones, new ones, fake ones, fixing them, building them, two big random photo blogs (largely populated by extremely ordinary guitars), a forum for finishing, five amplifier areas, pickups, boxes, playing, lots and lots of stuff.

It's a big world here. Even for me, who actually prefers Epiphone's versions of the Esquire and the Telecaster, the bolt-on Junior and the Special. I mean you put a Junior and an Esquire side by side, it's the same thing. Just the Telecaster is a boy and the Junior is a girl.
I've gone to both the Epiphone and Everything SG Forums, a few times, as I own ( and love) a 2018 SG Pro , and was curious to check out.

Honestly 2 things,
- some really snarky or petty, even rude back and forths going on, with threads, really turned me off. Juvenile (?)

- the subject matter, and content just did not have the depth or variety as TDPRI-

That's why here rocks!

There's not a lot going on over there, especially when it comes to reliable advice/opinions. For some reason there's not a lot of new threads posted either. I like to check in every now and then just because. I did get a threatening message from a moderator for posting I was only playing American guitars on the 4th of July. It was just a joke, smiley face included. This forum is by far the most active and legit. When I ever I have a serious gear related thing going on I come here.

With the introduction of the Pro Series pickups about 10 years ago fewer buyers look to do pickup swaps. The Epi ProBuckers hold their own very well as do the Pro P90s.
