    Hey all!

Is eBay no longer the place to sell?

No interest at all from anyone.

    I have 2 Telecasters listed:

    1 x Fender American Standard 2008

    Australian Dollars $1800 USD: $1385

1 x Fender American Vintage Hot Rod 52 Telecaster Butterscotch

    Australian Dollars $2400 USD: $1847

    Plus shipping of course.

Question is: Am I way out of the ballpark on pricing or has everyone gone to Reverb or somewhere else?

    Best wishes,
    Dave

How long have they been for sale? Shipping prices are up everywhere, which can certainly hurt online sales. People still like a bargain.

    Hey Boreas,

On eBay twice over the past 2 weeks.

Listed once. Auction once. For each.

Only listed in Australia. Shipping $100 each.

    Thanks and stay safe!

My MIA Standard Strat sold on EBay for $950 (US) a few months ago with $50 shipping. I think the price on your American Standard is a bit high. No idea about the other one.

    If it helps...
    About 3 months ago I paid $NZD 2100 ($AUD 1950 / $USD 1500) for an E-serial American Standard from 1988.
E serial = one of the early ones using left over serials from CBS.
    Non-original case.

I listed a Custom Shop Telecaster on Reverb and it took almost 4 months to sell. However, I ended up selling privately outside of Reverb, but the buyer initially messaged me through Reverb. It worked out for both of us because I was able to save on the 7.7% reverb fees and the buyer didn’t have to pay any sales tax.

Ebay seems to have a dodgy reputation when it comes to selling guitars. I have no granular information on why this is, however. I’ve bought 2 guitars from eBay and they were both great, however. Exactly as described.

Reverb seller fees are higher than eBay, but not much. Currently, the eBay fee for musical instruments is 5.85%. Despite this, I still think reverb is better for both buyers and sellers since it’s specifically geared towards guitars.

If I’m selling, I simultaneously list on Reverb, eBay, my local Craigslist, and the TDPRI Classifieds. You might as well use as many available platforms at your disposal.

As a buyer, I’ve gotten the best deals through Reverb, either by A) Making an offer that the seller accepts or better yet B) Negotiating an even better deal for both me and the seller by just going through PayPal.

As a buyer I no longer trust Ebay. Not exactly sure why. I guess it happened gradually over the years. But at this point I rarely, if ever, look for musical stuff on ebay.

I don't what things go for down under, but I'd agree that here in the US, an Am Std is around $900-1100, up from $600 just a few years ago

I just sold a Carvin on Reverb, the first fully intact guitar I've sold online for maybe 4 years. After paying the costs for shipping and Reverb's fees I feel these sites are just a step or two better than taking them to the Salvation Army.

Try listing them as an auction......just put a reserve at your lowest acceptable price. Sometimes folks have to "work up" to what they're willing to pay.

Personally I have a hard time paying more for a common used guitar than for a similar level new guitar.

How much does a new Fender USA Performer cost in Australia?

In the US, a new Performer goes for $1,050.00

You might also try Facebook Market place. Cheers

Gumtree has always been successful for me, I'm not a Facebook person but I also hear good things about its marketplace.

Not exactly. The Fender E4***** serial numbers were used from '84-'88 with E5 Fenders made in Japan.

I just bought a 2011 Fender Hot Rod Tele Butterscotch 3 weeks ago. I paid 1350 dollars USA and felt I got a good deal. I picked it up locally and it came with the case but no case candy. It has been played and has a small chip on the fret edge in one spot. It was from a Pawn Shop.
Hope this helps with your situation.

When selling online, I did this as a job for a stretch...your price determines the level of interest.

If you are getting no action, its not priced competitively. If its getting ripped from ur hands, its probably listed too low.

    Thats really it.

Another important factor as a seller is patience, especially with Teles and Strats. Could take months or even longer.

    Too expensive and forget eBay.

Use Gumtree or Facebook marketplace. No fees.

    Au$1500 for the Am Std

    Au$2100 for the 52 Hotrod

Just yesterday I purchased a mint 2013 Am Std Strat with the upgrade ash body for Au$1600 on Facebook marketplace.
