I've had mine for 7-8 years. The plastic around the face has started feeling gummy/sticky. I've never spilled anything on it and have always taken excellent care of it. I had a suitcase with a plastic handle and a flashlight do the same thing before over time. It's a bummer.

I never had one last long enough to get sticky. The ball receiver part of the connector fails. It’s not repairable I’ve done better with D’Addario. I like the mini that attaches with a screw to a tuning machine. D’Addario tuners shut off on their own saving batteries.

My old blue SN-1 got sticky. That bugged me, but I kept it until I accidentally broke it. (I dropped it onto a hardwood floor and its case cracked.)

The replacement I bought (a black SN-5x) is just smooth plastic without that coating. Its mechanism doesn't seem to be quite as precise as the other one, though.

It must be the blue plastic. My red one is fine. My blue one is gummy.

I had that issue and just use a pedal tuner now. Much more convenient to use and will last forever. My third snark lives in my acoustic travel bag.

Has happened to several Logitech mice as well.
Youtube says you can remove the stickyness with acetone.

90% alchohol, paper towel, some rubbing to get the coating off the darnded thing.
you can use 70% it will take longer.

depending on the paper towel, it will leave fibers until you get all the coating off.
its a crap compound used on a lot of stuff.

surprized the neck joint on the back hasn't snapped yet. my oldest snark was held together with zipties. the tuner works great, the housing ain't nothin to write home about.

acetone doesn't play well with paint or plastic. good luck, it usually melts plastic
    and removes paint.

try alcohol its what they use in plastic factorys to clean up overspray etc...

Never owned a Snark tuner, just D'Addario's and have never had a problem with them.

Even more reason to lament the current era.

The black ones only $13. What's the difference?!
