just a hint:
instead of spraying contact cleaner into a jack, directly use a Q tip dipped in Say deoxit , and insert that into the jack instead , it doesnt waste the excess cleaner and you control where the cleaner goes, an other option is to dip a 1/4 inch plug into the cleaner and insert that several times into the jack rotating it slightly to clean off corosion

I don’t think it’s the LED. The signal to the DAW was equally as weak. The firmware updates seems to have corrected the issue. The LED works through the spectrum: green , blue, red.

Even if it were, repairing it would be beyond my meager technical or soldering abilities.🤣

FWIW, this is the guts of the 2i2 with its D/A converters, preamps, jacks, circuits. This is way out of my league. I would screw this up like a boss.

unless you are set up to repair SMD parts ( surface mounted devices) dont attempt it .

if this is component hole through PC board it looks like it from here , you may have a broken intermittent contact on the input jacks which is easy to fix by resoldering the jacks back onto the lower PC board to enure good connection ,
some times the stress from the weight of the guitar cables loosens the soldering where the jack is connected and reflowing the solder will fix that

So, back to my thread title. Has anyone ever had their interface fail or give out?

Yes... over the past 25 years or so, I've had one interface fail. It didn't just stop working, it got really noisy and suffered digital whine. I gave it a good clean, touched up any solder points I could... nothing helped so I had to replace it.

As I posted, it seems to be working after a firmware update. I’m still a little leery of it but will take a “wait and see” approach. I’d probably buy another Scarlett. It’s been a good device and it got a lot of heavy use during the pandemic. Maybe, as @24 track posted, stress from cables caused an issue. Goodness knows, I’ve plugged and unplugged cables over a thousand times.

I would uninstall the Focusrite driver and reinstall it as a first step. Driver may be the problem.

Unplug the interface usb, install a new driver from the focusrite website then plug in the usb. I ran into a problem just re-installing the driver without unplugging the interface first.

I resolved the problem by installing a firmware update. All is well. I've never installed a driver on my Macs.

No. I've been using the same Roland-built Edirol interface since 2005. Pretty heavy use considering it's not paying bills. It's recorded several albums, and lots of projects, demos, remote sessions, and one-offs. Never a single issue.
I dread the day I have to replace it with something else.

The only problem I have with Scarlett interfaces is that I keep giving them away, so I have to buy news ones. My daughter has my 4i2, friend Mike has the old 2i2. Now I’m on my 3rd, a Gen3 2i2. Never a problem with any of them.
