I can't think of an actor who hasn't made some poor films.

John Cazale. It's kind of a technicality because he died so young, but: The Godfather, The Conversation, The Godfather Part II, Dog Day Afternoon, and the Deer Hunter. Easily the best resume in film history.

I don't think you could call any of the Kevin Smith movies Matt Damon movies.
Damon and Afleck have cameos or smaller parts in almost all his films, but that is more like friends playing in the other guy's films. Having said that, I thought Dogma was really funny, and the best Smith film by far.

He was one of the main characters. I'd say that counts.

Green Zone sucked too.

Yes. I was expecting much better. Horrible storyline. But 90% of the time Matt delivers.
Have you ever seen him on the cable show House of lies?

He does not just limit himself to the big screen. He is Hysterical on that show. He plays himself but he is a very crude character in real life (on the show). Its Hysterical. His not a one trick pony. Writer, Drama, comedy, action hero, the guy is the goods.

I read somewhere that Matt Damon and Natalie Portman were the two most well known and least controversial celebs there are ... Some sociology study

There was a good docu-film made about him a few years ago called "I Knew It Was You" Rediscovering John.Cazale.

You should try and catch it if you liked him.
