I have not read very many independent reviews but I am curious about them. I generally do not "swap" pickups but I know that many players like to swap and experiment. I am always curious to read their experiences. ThroBak PAF models are generally well regarded, especially on the Les Paul Forum where a lot of collectors hang. So with that pedigree in place, curious what Fender players think of the vendor's Fender replacements / upgrades.

I'd love to try a set of their PAF replicas, but thinking about their SC pickups isn't as enticing to me for some reason.

I have a love-hate relationship with PAFs and LP style guitars. Mostly just a simmering dissatisfaction.

I've found that PAF style pickups all sound wildly different, more so than Tele singles. And every one of them, but one to date has lacked the sensitivity to get the sound in my head. I play clean, and I want that slightly throaty sound with just a bit of overdrive. But most PAFS go from clean to full crunch, with very little middle ground.

I love the 57 Classics in my 335, but didn't care much about them when they were in a Trad LP.

My Collings CL came with nasal, harsh Lollars. Once I put Throbak SLE-101s in it, just like that I was done. I like 'em a lot.

Agree, there are so many tweakable factors with PAF's it takes a LONG time to figure out why they're making that sound that you like ( if you like something in particular ).

Throbak doesn't market their SC's the same way as they do their humbucker offerings.

I'll pass on the SCs. Thing is, with the PAFs, I couldn't find anything I liked. With Tele singles, heck, I like nearly all of them! Just need more holders for 'em. 😏
