Has anyone ever been injured by a string breaking while tuning?

High e broke and wedged itself into my left cheek, and when I got it out I lost a little bit of blood. Nothing major though

I had an e string break once and leave a three inch scratch across my right forearm. It bled like crazy but it wasn't anything like a deep cut.

I remember reading that the violinist and pedagogue Sevcik had a cat-gut string break on him when he was playing. He lost his eye.

Moral of the story? Stick with Telecasters, or use steel violin strings!

A good friend of mine used to play guitar for Head East, and found himself on a plane to Alaska with Gregg Allman, to do a show.

He was changing strings on his guitar, when Gregg got up, came over and said - "Gimme that guitar." Of course, my buddy did, and Gregg took out a quarter and zip-curled the string ends. He gave it back and said - "Duane never used to do that, and he was always poking me."

My buddy also said that Gregg had the most intimidating "rock star aura" of anyone he'd met, and he knew a bunch of them. But he said he was really nice, after he started talking to him.

Yep. Dialling the wrong tuner for an E string- overtighteed and it whipped across my face just under the eyes. A nice clean , thin , red line. Lucky.

Had an E string break when I was playing, seated... I heard it go and felt a flick on my lower forearm and pulled my right arm away... as I did, it pulled the neck out of my left hand..wtf?...

the broken end of the string had a little hook on the end, it impaled the string in my arm enough to stay there when I pulled the neck out of my hand with it.... then I had to get it out with the guitar balanced on my lap...

Ouch...:)

Years ago, I broke a G string while tuning. It snapped really hard and cut a gash above my right eye. I always think about that incident every time I tune up or replace strings.
I'm not to bothered but I'd never work on a guitar wearing only a G string...........................................
