One of the best songwriters. To improve my own compositions I studied, (in no particular order), ......

Harry Nilsson
Paul McCartney
John Lennon
Pete Hamm (Badfinger)
James Taylor
Bob Dylan
Tom Petty
Willie Nelson
Elton John and Bernie Taupin
Jimmy Web
et., etc.

There was a click between Paul McCartney, John Lennon, Harry Nilsson and Pete Hamm that just created some wonderful songs. Harry also had a voice that could soar. He and Ringo used to be a riot when they got together. Harry was an introvert but, in a one on one situation, he was a blast. You can find humor across the songs he wrote. Satire. Great imagery. Introspection. Harry was an introvert who found his voice through his songs. My wife and I have been fans since the very beginning.

I joined the Nilsson fan club late. I was aware of and liked his hits, but dang, he was pretty prolific and had a ton of great stuff. I have a Nilsson channel on Pandora and still come across stuff I never heard before.

My wife likes to torment me with
🎵Gotta get up, gotta get out
Gotta get home before the mornin' comes" 😄

Harry was one of those rare guys who hit the trifecta as a really good writer, singer and player.

I remember buying Nilsson Schmilsson and Son of Schmilsson on 8-track and listening to them over and over.

Like the Beatles, the novelty songs and the serious songs were good.

He's one of my all-time favs. Have a listen to "You're Breaking My Heart" if you want a chuckle. Ringo played drums on the Son of Shmilsson album under the name "Richie Snare" and George Harrison played guitar as "George Harrysong" and even Peter Frampton participated. How's that for credits?

Tell me that you know of anyone else that can put a smile on your face with topics like this like he could. Tragic loss... imagine.

An excerpt from Wiki about the recording of "Without You"

It was alleged, by Harry himself, that, upon hitting the highest note of the song, he burst a large haemorrhoid
