Hey Guys,

I'm Curious about the Harmony Jupiter Stratotone Reissues.
I was wondering if anybody had any experience with these.

I don't think they make much sense. Just grab an original Harmony or Silvertone. It's all about the pickups and for some reason no one has been able to clone those Rowe/DeArmonds.

That's cool, but I imagine that it cost at least as much as the real thing. I bought a nice 1963 Silvertone 1420 guitar and 1966 1482 amp last year for $200 for the set! They just needed clean up, strings, a grounded power cord and a couple of electrolytic caps!

I totally agree with you guys.

But here in Australia the Originals aren't that common and the cheapest one i found on the 'bay was $1100 and that's before customs duties.

I have the chance to pick up a reissue with Hard Case for $850.

Opinions?

Sure looks nice. I find that the only old Harmonys that are cheap anymore are the really low-end models. The new reissues are Korean-made, so they could be much nicer guitars than the originals, based on my experience with Korean guitars. I have played Korean Reverends in that price range (this side of the Pacific, can't speak to your prices), and they were amazingly good. As long as you judge it fairly, and you're aware that it's not going to be as easy to sell on at a good price if you don't bond with it, I'd say it's worth at least looking at.

New or old, with these guitars it's all down to the pickups.

A guy in our band has the black-glitter Silvertone version of these (vintage) w/ two silverfoil Dearmonds and it's a monstrous guitar. Most guitars w/ those pickups are (I've had half a dozen).

I've seen variants of the old ones that aren't natural wood finished go for cheaper than the prices for new ones.

Have the ebay seller take the neck off and pack it well and it'd be cheap to ship too.
