    Happy Hanukkha to all TDPRIers.

Here's my girls enjoying their Hanukkha Gelt. They almost got the story right too, apart from my youngest confusing Macabees with Monkeys. Made for a more interesting tale than usual!

That's a great picture. My parent's families lived next door to each other in a mixed Polish emigrant neighborhood which celebrated both Catholic and Jewish holidays. We moved out to the "sticks" when I was quite young, but the strongest memories was of the cooking and baking for the holidays!

To this day I can still recall my father's tiny, little mother, who spoke not a word of English, making everything from pierogi and faworki to latkes and babka.

This will be the first year I can remember when I have not baked. Nest year I start to teach my Grandson!

I could eat my body weight in latkes - especially cooked by a proper Jewish mother!

It was a miracle I got them to hold still for this picture - throw a toy in and you're asking for trouble!

Way I remember it, you'd pay money not to have to "play" wth the dreidel---hard to get upright and spinning, and it skittered off the table and all over the floor.

    Just a word of warning...

Menorahs and curious cats don't mix. It was the final night of Chanukah and my cat Grommet was rubbing around the menorah when I noticed smoke issuing from his butt. That's when I realized he'd set his rear on fire.

Luckily I doused him before he even noticed. Don't leave those candles unattended with pets around!

P.S. In retrospect it was pretty funny.

Happy Hanukkah! I love latkes, too. I'm not Jewish, but growing up near NYC meant that you had lots of different choices at the local deli.

    Happy Hanukkah!

I finally bought a new menorah this year. I had a lovely one made in a limited edition by an artist but the candle holders were too close to each other and always melted all the candles at the same time. My new one gives a bit of distance so you don't have the total meltdown.

    Have happy and peace-filled holidays!
