Steve Wariner’s crazy musical odyssey is filled with characters with names like Chet Atkins, Jerry Reed, Reggie Young, Vince Gill, Ricky Skaggs, Mark O'Connor and many others that are either titans or demigods of the music world. In our Truetone Lounge interview, Steve discusses all of the musical giants above, while also taking us from his early years in Indiana, all the way to commercial and artistic success all over the world. Along the way, we cover his mentorship by Chet Atkins, and the struggles he faced to have the opportunity to play on his own albums under the then current “Nashville” studio system. Wariner then takes a moment to give credit to the great Reggie Young, who played additional guitar parts on many of his albums through the years, and how he was greatly influenced by both his playing and tone. He then breaks down the intro and guitar solo to his hit single “Lynda,” showing us how he came up with the solo, and how it works over the song's chord changes. Steve then talks gear, focusing on his Glaser built Strat, red Glaser Bender guitar, 1954 Telecaster, and some of his favorite effects and amplifiers.

Love the Truetone lounge! The Paul Franklin interview led me to the Lloyd Green interview he conducted.
Wish I lived in Nashville..I visited a few years ago when I picked up a Danocaster. You rock!!

@Zac Watched this last night around 1am. Worth staying up. Great great interview with great stories. It's just all around great and Steve seems like one the coolest guys and would just play with any body just because he enjoys it.

Also liked the follow up with JD Simo as well. I seen on FB Guthrie got his Floyd Cassista tele back. I follow up is now needed. :)

Also a True Tone Lounge with Brad Paisley, Tommy Emmanuel, Kenny Vaughan, Marty Stuart, along with many others would be really cool. Huge fan of these videos.

I had the rare pleasure of being Mr. Wariner’s opening act three times, in the mid/late 80s.
    I remain mightily impressed!

In part due to his father and as he said he learned a lot from Chet about how to treat people in the studio and so forth.

Fantastic interview. Zac, you never disappoint with your guests or interview skills. Specifically, thanks for asking about Steve's new pickups. I noticed the Duncan Hot Strat Stack wasn't in the middle position anymore.

Steve had the original pickups in there until he had Jeff Senn install the Ellis pickups a couple of months ago.

I've known Steve for 40 years, as well as his brother Kenny, and I also knew Roy. All nice guys, and all good pickers!
