The man who sang the line “I hope I die before I get old” turned eighty years old today. Happy birthday to one Roger Daltrey. I’ve got two clips for the occasion. First, one of what I consider to be among his best vocal performances.

Second, a song that he doesn’t sing much, but he does play a Tele. (This is TDPRI, after all.)

I didn't realize what a great, powerful voice he has/had until one of the more modern rock groups did a cover version of an old Who song. Roger's voice is much better.

I'm having a senior moment and can't remember the covering group or the Who song they did. Someone here can probably help me.

Happy Birthday Roger!

… Don't cry because you hunt them
Hurt them first they'll love you
There's a millionaire above you
And you're under his suspicion

I think I might know which band and which song, but I’m keeping it to myself in order to preserve the ears of anyone curious enough to look it up. But yes, Roger and the Who do a much better job.

I really like the Quadrophenia album, some great songs and Roger is one of my favorite vocalists of all time.

One of my all time vocalists. One of my all time bands.

Crap! At 80 Daltrey is spryer/sprier (sic?) than I am at nearly 72.

the stuttering in My Generation.... Rog was trying to get the feel of the lyrics but stumbling over the phrasing... whoever was in charge (Pete?) (a producer/engineer) supposedly said... thats great, leave that in! I saw them play it live in the mid 60s

Happy B Day Mr. Daltrey! When I was a kid, my schoolmates were either pro-Beatles or pro-Stones. I was rabidly pro-Who. And Quadrophenia remains a favourite album and movie.
