    Happy Birthday Dave!

I’ve been a fan of Pink Floyd and David Gilmour since I was old enough to listen to FM radio, where the real, serious rock music was. That was mid 70’s. My brother bought Dark Side of the Moon and we played it endlessly.

I saw Pink Floyd in 94 or 95 and was mesmerized by the tone of the Strat. It was hypnotic.

Guitar driven music in general was why I picked up the guitar. But David Gilmour was the reason I wanted to actually learn to play.

Favorite solo? Can't pick just one. In no particular order

    1. Comfortably Numb (both solos), album and Delicate Sound of Thunder versions
    2. On the Turning Way
    3. Terminal Frost
    4. Shine On

My all-time favorite guitarist by far. Love his first solo album especially but his work on Animals is my absolute favorite guitar of his. I’ve seen him with (Roger Water-less) Floyd a couple times but the best concert was seeing him on tour for his second solo album at the Kabuki theatre in San Francisco, June 1984. Small place. He was awesome. Set list:

    1. Until We Sleep
    2. All Lovers Are Deranged
    3. Love on the Air
    4. Mihalis
    5. Cruise
    6. Short and Sweet
    7. Money
    8. Out of the Blue
    9. Let's Get Metaphysical
    10. You Know I'm Right
    11. Run Like Hell
    12. Blue Light
    13. Near the End
    14. Comfortably Numb

Even before I was interested in the guitar, years before playing, I knew there was something different about him.

Happy birthday Dave....Gotta love the guy

He and Knopfler are the main reason my first electric was a Strat

Now there's two guys I'd be interested in seeing do some work together

Happy birthday David :) Huge influence in the how to phrase with elegance...along with some other British guys.
Love the Delicate sound of thunder version of On the turning way....amazing outro solo, stirred alot of emotions in me...saw them in Copenhagen back then in the late 80's...
    Was an experience for life.

This. That to me is the epitome of Tele tone right there. I love that track so much.

Saw Pink Floyd at the Rose Bowl during the 94/95 Pulse tour and was blown away. Best concert I've been to.

    Oh c’mon, he’s a hack!

LOL, just kidding. Easily one of my favorites: tasteful, melodic and inspiring. His solos soar!! I recently learned his version of “Don’t”.

Wow, that's like asking which of your children you love more, I can't pick just one, although I will say that the Wish You Were Here album is first to get played at work each day. Followed by DSOTM and The Wall. I'm with others and agree the he taught me about phrasing and note choice over flash and speed.

Being more into guitar "parts" than solos, I'd have to say my favorite work of his - most of which I love - is probably his playing on "Any Colour You Like", leading right into the jangly, swirly D chord arpeggios in "Brain Damage"... a lot of ground covered in those few minutes.

And for vocals? Gotta go with "Fearless".

My all time favorite player who taught me solo's can be melodic, tasteful, and sometimes more can be conveyed with one note then a flurry of noise. As far as favorites Brick pt2, Comfortably Numb both, and Shine on Crazy Diamond

The man deserves to be Knighted.

Too many favorite guitar parts to single any out, just decades of continued reason to pay attention.

I just got the DVD od Dave Gilmour Live at Pompeii and the tribute they gave to him with photos of the first visit there , remarkable , he did not do echoes as he said that was he and Rick's song ond he would not do it with out him.

This guitar strap he has bumpching his shrit was given to him on his birthday by his wife Poly, it belonged to one, James Marshall Hendrix

Happy BDAY Mr Gilmour! Vivid memories of spinning Time over and over again on a little record player when I was young, playing air guitar to that solo....Money, Comfortably Numb, Mother...the list goes on and on. The man has an incredible touch.
