Here's my mate's humbucker equipped Chinese made Hamer next to my Indonesian made Hamer with p90s
Sorry that my pics aren't rotated. .
Market has been rising on them since they shut down. I paid high for my first one (through a store) and was worried about recouping, but they are now on the market (Reverb, craigslist, ebay) for about the same price I paid. Better get one before they get out of hand.
Mike Shishkov (Yuri's brother), has started his own business... his first run of 48 Standard guitars have been about ridiculous in how great they look. Not an exact repeat of a Hamer Standard, but an improved one, as he is really building them one at a time, by hand. He will soon be making other style of guitars, so keep an eye out!
My wife bought me a Newport for my big 50, and it's all kinds of good! It really is amp dependent however. The tone pot should be at the halfway point as a starter, and if you don't like overwound pickups the phatcats may not be your style... but you roll back the vol to 7 or 8 and its a killer, clear sounding guitar. A lot harder rocking than you would think.
Howard Leese of Heart's Hamer Phantom
That is insanely cool.
Wow! Under $500 for an extremely well built, and very cool looking,American built guitar.
the one on the right
Wow, this thread has gotten kinda zombie-ish since FMIC put the last few nails in Hamer's coffin. Better late than never, I just joined the club with this MIK "Slammer Series" sunburst model. Great guitar with cheezy electronics. I made it sound better and look more like an original by adding a pair of Josh Gravelin's pickups, same as those he designed for the first-run Shishkov Ultimates. Budokan snarl rendered in cream and black. (75% cream!)
This guitar kicks all kinds of booty and scratches my itch for a Hamer, on the cheap.
I'll throw mine up too. 1996 Mirage II. I'm the original owner. I went to a tour of the Hamer factory in CT and was able to get Hamer designer Jol Danzig to sign the trem cover for me. Although I think the Mirage was actually a Terry McInturff design.
The Artist Custom went to a new home, but I scored this last year!
'84 Sunburst with a one piece top and back.
I don't have either one anymore (Custom, Scarab II), but I currently have a 1993 Special (no pic).
My 1992 "Modern Vintage" Hamer Sunburst Archtop Custom ..
Much as I'd like a USA-built Hamer, I'm quite happy with my two Far East made guitars, a Sunburst and a Junior. The Sunburst now has a Phat Cat P90 at the neck, and I added some sort of Chigsby to the Junior, which is one slammin' little rock'n'roll guitar — just a plank and a P90.
Anyone have a Monaco Elite with p90s they want to let go?
