The SB half time shows have become more about pageantry and over the top visuals than they have about music. If it wasn't more popular and more broadly accepted they'd do it differently but IMHO the days of seeing '60s or '70s rock bands doing the half time show live are over. Or '80s or '90s I should add. Why deal with live production when lip synch is acceptable?

The NFL now wants the half time performers to actually pay them for the exposure they get. LOL Can you see The Stones or Tom Petty or Bruce Springsteen paying for "exposure". Better get use to it. It'll be more of the same next year and probably every year thereafter. Pretty soon the NFL will put the half time show up for bid just like the do the site itself.

The truth is that it was only briefly about music.

Perry was ok, at least she was actually singing, but the other acts she brought in stunk real bad. What was the point of Lenny being there? He was superfluous, completely. And those puff-a-lumps jumping around and talking about something you couldn't hear...what was that about?

The stage was cool along with the mechanical lion, but the rest was lame.

Missy Elliot was completely lame. i just can't hang with hip hop type music.
The recycled Michael/Janet Jackson/Madonna dance moves are over done IMHO.

I had made up my mind that I wouldn't like it but I did.

I was watching with my inlaws (mid 80) and my daughter (age 10). Looks to me like they struck the right balance so the in laws could be befuddled but amused and the 10 year old could smile and laugh. Lenny Kravitz was ridiculous and cartoonish, but I've always found lenny kravitz ridiculous and cartoonish: he's always been sort of a prop (insert rockin' dude here) and it was obvious last night. Could have done without Missy Elliot: assume she and Perry share management? she was fine but she just didn't match the katy perry sweet/sexy goof vibe

    Oh my jeez.

Seriously. Curmudgeons offended people? After some of the other comments?

I could have predicted this thread in June of 2013. It's always the same on these forums... People complaining about the halftime show. It's always the same "so and so wasn't right for the crowd.... Shouldn't have had the "rap" and on an on..." I couldn't have cared about the show, it was 12 minutes of my life....whoop de do. My 7 year old daughter danced along and my wife and I laughed at the beach balls and the Sharks.

Hey let's all go back to 1983 where the crowd turns cards to make a pretty pattern.

All I know is that, somewhere, somebody was thinking, "Man, I shouldn't have dropped all that acid before the game."

The Lenny Kravitz bit was boring and unnecessary, otherwise I loved it, easily my favorite Super Bowl halftime show. It's nice that they picked an artist who has some relevance in the current century.

Remember back in the day when "In Living Color" did a halftime show? That was great!

Well, it's Katy Perry, so I sort of knew what to expect. I actually enjoyed it, especially compared to Madge or Beyoncé, whom I thought were terrible. I changed the channel while they were performing. I could have done without Kravitz and Missy Elliot, but that's OK. Super Bowl halftime shows are really more about spectacle than music anyway.

Prince was the best show in recent memory, and last year's Bruno Mars was pretty good too.

One of my 10 year-old boys (I have twins) said: "I hate this modern crap."

The other one gave it a thumbs up.

I like Katy's bit - not my music but she goes all in at her shows and gives her fans their money's worth. Don't know why Lenny was there, but I've always thought of him as the Kim Kardashian of rock & roll. More celebrity than anything else.

She objectified chicks pretty nicely, which I did appreciate. But it made this ad that played during the bowl kinda ironic

Also the domestic violence ad- I thought to myself, now the jig is up for some woman who pretends to call for a pizza when she's actually seeking help. Good job "PSA". Sheesh
