I found this on another forum so don't take my word for it!!
Llink to discussion: http://www.harmonycentral.com/forum/forum/guitar/acapella-41/1104801-
I found out what is going on with the Hagstrom H-Expander. The hex screw in the end is NOT a normal truss rod adjuster.
In fact, it's a "set screw" that screws down agains the end of the rod that goes through the body of the H-Expander.
To adjust the neck you have to apply pressure against the middle of the neck (and have the strings completely loosened). THis will bow the H-expander and make the rod going through the middle also bowed - leaving a little extra room between the rod end and the set screw. Now you tighten the set screw to press against the rod.
When you relieve the pressure from the middle of the neck the H-Expander will be set in place and won't budge. This is NOT like the normal truss rod. And people who complain about the hex screw not turning are not doing the right thing.
The H-Expander has to be pre-bent to the amount of back bow you want prior to adjusting the set screw. If you just keep on turning the set screw and try to force it you are likely to strip it out. The good news is that if you do you can probably get a replacement and replace it since the set screw will come out if you completely unscrew it.
Thanks, uffeiac. I'll check it out.

I was thinking of getting one of the Viking reissues (I'm looking at a tremar deluxe), and was just wondering on the dimensions. Can anyone tell me how wide the body is?

A little over 16 inches, the measure I found said 410mm which = 16.14inches.

I have a Tremar Swede. It was a little dark sounding when I got it. Swapped the roller bridge for a stainless bar bridge and it brightened up nicely. But now the tuning stability took a slight hit. Might try to find a brighter roller bridge for it. The trem on these is very well made. Smooth and responsive dare I say better than Bigsby.

I'm tempted by the viking but all the demos make the pickups sound too...clunky, too think in the mids and lacking in sparkle. For some people they're probably great, but I'd normally put in something like SD seth lovers or antiquities.

Can anyone share their experience of how the viking sounds with new pickups?

Can somebody tell me about current F200 model? How does those particular pickups sound? I know P90 pups well, i have a half dozen guitars equipped with such, but i ask what kind are those Hagström uses.

The only humbuggy guitar I still play is a early 70s Swede in SG red. I put a ToneZone in the bridge and a bluesbucker in the neck.

I think those come with the custom 60 alnico 5 humbuckers. My swede has the custom 58 hums. I've tried both and the custom 60's where a little brighter than the 58's. Decent pickups as far as I'm concerned.

I still have the original Swede pickups. Those things are Very very dark.

Yes, I find the 58's in the Swedes pretty dark, the 60's in the F200 are brighter. I'm still shopping for replacements for my Swede.

Well I have read that Hagstrom had used the Kent name in the very beginning . Of course my Kent was made in Japan in the 60s but it has a slight connection to a hagstrom What do you think ?

I'm happy with what I am using. Nothing fancy.

DiMarzio Bluebucker in the neck. It is very articulate, almost P90 like in some ways.

DiMarzio Tone Zone in the bridge.

I doubt there's a connection between the Kent strat and Hagström.
This is a qoute from the book "Super Swede - Hagström Guitars 50 Years":
"The model was branded Kent. A brand name that Hagström as well as others had used on budget instruments. There are Italian and Japanese "Kent" guitars."
The reason for using the Kent name instead of Hagström was a fear that the acrylic wouldn't be durable enough and cause damage to the Hagström brand name.
The only models that Hagström marketed as Kent were the acrylics (1962-1966) and a few semi acoustics made by Italian Zero-Sette.
The acrylics also sold as "Electra", "Cromwell" and "Futurama", depending on country.

Short but happy NGD post

Hagström F200P has all mahogany body and neck, was it Resolnol? synthetic wood fretboard. It came with perfect intonation and string height, but bridge pickup is low, neck pickup is clearly louder with fatter tone. It is only a problem if i play with both pickups together.
Pickups are good with articulate tone light years from muddy, and powerful. My amps begin to distort earlier than with many of my humbucker guitars! I only hope they don`t die in many years, well in years i have left and can hold a guitar!:D
Fretboard feels like rw, neck profile is comfortable medium C, like in 60`s Classic Strat. Frets are vintage, board is quite flat, suits me all time. (preferably vintage style tele player )
Tuners are stiff to begin with, but are working easier after some use, and this guitar seems to stay well in tune, even after some vibrato use. Trem/vibrato unit is bigger that in strats, it feels smooth and effective. Wonder what that 4-screw system really is.

Whole build is well put together with faultless finish. I see it have SG-like body shape which is substantiously thicker than in gibby, set neck and 3+3 headstock with a design i like very much. It differs considerably from HII and HIII models from the sixties, i played my guitar friends ones back then, Hagströms were numerous in my youth`s Finland (lived 48-76 in Finland, 76-today in Sweden). Those were F-like, this is definitely in G-category, with strat-like vibrato unit.

In total, very comfortable guitar which ispires one to play like Pat Smear of FF without thinking of it! With moderate distorsion, instant Foo Fighters sound!
And in many more classic rock & jazz styles too. Extremely priceworthy guitar, it is getting more expensive here in Hagström birth country already, many sellers are asking 1.8x of what i paid for it.:D;):D

Pics have protective plastics still on, i have a friend who traditionally takes them off, coming in 2 days.
