so sorry for you and your family.. i wasn't crazy about the little chihuahua rescue my wife brought home 16 years ago but grew to love her quickly, despite her alarm clock stomach that had her barking at my feet to be fed precisely at 7 am and 5 pm they are definitely family members to many of us

Chihuahuas are great little dogs and wonderful companions. They are small but their hearts are 10 feet tall. They get a bum rap from folks who just don't know how cool and loving they are. As alert dogs, they are superior... no one will ever sneak up on you from a mile away! Loyal. Fearless. They give unconditional love and boy that aint easy. RIP to your little boy and rest assured that you gave him the best home and life any dog could hope for. He was lucky!!
Here's one of mine we had to let go last year, and I think of him every day... TOBY was his name (begin spaghetti western theme) TOBY.JPG

Thanks, everyone. Really appreciated and love the stories.

Boy was he fearless alright, He once went nose to nose barking like crazy with a full size, Huge Rottweiler while I was carrying a computer out of a customer's car, I felt for sure he was going to get eaten. He shot away down the road so I turned around to take the computer away, next thing he was back going at it again! Fortunately, the elderly, female Rottweiler was just as amazed/shocked as the rest of us and kind of stood there staring at him going, really?

Another time we were talking to our neighbour with her elderly waist-high, ginormous Rhodesian Ridgeback or something, next thing you know this poor dog is bleeding profusely from the nose as Jasper ran up and launched himself at it (turned out to be the tiniest of scratches). Just so embarrassing but you had to admire his bravery!

Anyway, it's sad but it really was for the best. Thanks for the thoughts. :)

Sorry for your loss. Its the saddest and hardest part of having furry companions but the joy we share with them is well worth it.

    Extending my sympathy.

Pets are pure pure unconditional love.
We always need that, and give it back in return.

I'm sorry you lost your little buddy. It's so hard to lose those special ones. I make a mark every Tuesday in my journal commemorating Toto's passing, so I do understand.

Jasper knew he was loved and he had a good life. That's just about all we can ask for as pet parents. I know it's hard since I had to do this with my beloved Zoe a few years ago. I was with her at the end. It was heartbreaking but glad I was there for her when she passed.

    Deepest sympathy for your loss.

This is especially sad, about Jasper and Rita, passing on at a relatively young age for Chihuahuas.

At least some of the attraction of this breed is their potential to reach age 30.

Still, no time is a good time for these friends to become disabled and can longer enjoy life. Very hard experience. My Daisy was 14 when she left us in September of 2019 and I think of her every day.

Best from me too, in your loss. We're down to one dog here, and he's in his twilight years.

We've always had larger dogs. If there's a next one, though, I think I'll campaign for a smaller breed, not that my vote counts.
