Not gonna lie, I've been one or two beers away from doing this myself.

And this would be why I still don't own the ES style guitar that I would love to own.

Yep, I used to use clear tubing, but when the pots pop off the tubing and fall back in, it's beyond annoying. "Arggghgh! #@%$*" Floss is a good idea ("why didn't I think of that??" moment) - I'm going to switch to using that over string.

    Yeah no kidding!

Ok, first Johnny, I'm going to cut a portion of your skull from the back of your head,
temporarily remove your brain, cut out a bit more tissue, and then I'll have easier access to that rear molar that's bugging you.

Seriously though.... You could kind of understand this level of stupidity, pre-internet.

    But in the Google era?

Not too much different from anybody else's "guitar face."

It's OK, I generally don't work on guitars at parties.

    I don't blame you, though.

I have a massive pole barn that has everything from half rebuilt motorcycles to a silver face TR that needs a recap. I’ll have you over for a few beers sometime and then we can go do some fun s**t.

That sounds perfect. One of my greatest failures in life is not having a large outbuilding.

That isn't too far off of what I might have done, except that I would have cut the hole so that a Les Paul plate would have covered it

Gibson ES-333, and the Epi and Gibson "Lucille" models have a control panel/cover on the back. His mod was undoubtedly inspired by those models.
