guitar stands or wall hanging?

Discussion in 'Bad Dog Cafe' started by oceanblue, Sep 15, 2019.

Do you prefer your guitars hung on walls or on guitar stands?

  1. Wall hangers

  2. Floor Stands

Actually, this is how I keep my guitars. Since the room I use to practice is upstairs, I have no need to have them exposed and beckoning. They prolly keep better in the case.

I hang some and have a few on stands. Fortunately, the studio is recently built, and only used for music playing,

so not too dusty. I dust everything off with a soft paintbrush every now and then, and that seems ok.

The four I play all the time are out on stands since it's ridiculous to be banging them into and out of cases. The ones I play frequently are in cases. I have used wall hanging in the past, when I had secure studs and could do it properly. I wouldn't trust many people to install hangers correctly. I think it all comes down to conditions and use. Where I live, the temp. and humidity numbers are always moderate and do not swing day to day. If they did, I'd be using cases. And, of course, direct sunlight is damaging to everything, guitars included.

The walls are made of something else too, it's harder to install them in brick walls, although I'm not interested anyway since I don't have enough wall space.

Those Stagg 6 guitar stands are great. I'd like one of those Guitar Fetish ones because they look nice, but with close to $200 in shipping fees alone, screw them.

I hang all mine, and keep a floor stand handy to park whatever guitar I'm playing for the moment, wherever around the house I might be playing it. So far I have avoided hanging them against exterior walls; I've heard that's bad. I dunno, though, I've also heard it's bad to hang them at all, and that seems to be going fine. . . .

Mine are a combination of wall hangers, stands, and cases.

Incidentally, for those concerned with the long-term effects of hanging guitars, do remember that most guitars weigh under ten pounds, but the string tension on the neck is upward of 100lbs or so, depending on string gauge and such. Hanging them won’t hurt them at all.

I make my own wood wall hangers, because I hate nice stuff hanging on cheap stuff.[IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG]

No room in tiny studio for stands so it’s hangers... still populating walls.

I have one of each right now. The hanger is attached to the side of a bookshelf. I'd like to have more instruments out so they would be easier to play but I don't have enough wall and floor space.

both. The ones I'm not presently using hang on the wall, and the one I'm using sits on a floor stand, or lays on the futton or floor, or up against anything vertical.

I keep mine in their cases, but keep a few out on stands for noodling. They get put away at the end of the day and/or rotated every so often. The LP definitely goes back in the case.

Can I ask why they’re tuned down? I have a guitar that is pretty much permanently stored away, should I tune it down?

Nice collection, and very cool hangers!

Nice collection man. What’s the top left one?

    Primarily wall hangers
    HSC for longer term hibernation
A few floor stands for stuff currently in use.
    Simple plan.

I would. Did you ever notice that a stored guitar's pitch gets higher when it is stored. Especially when the temp drops?

Wall hangers for me. Got an e-drum kit set up and I don't have enough floorspace for a bunch of stands.
