I'll be visiting Phoenix in December, and hope to drop by some guitar shops/music stores while I'm there.

    Any particular shops recommended?

Looking for friendly places that won't mind me just exploring what's there, browsing guitars etc. Any purchase would be limited to used cheapie player/project guitar or parts (depends on how much cash I have at the time.)

    Thanks for any tips! :)

Sam Ash on Cactus Rd. is also a pretty good store.

But like @viccortes285 says; stay away from the GC's.

Terrific suggestions so far, thanks! I'd forgotten about pawn shops, I'll see what's near where I'll be staying.

I miss having a Milano's near me. Oh well, need to take a field trip out east now.

Every time I go to GC, they let me down a little more.

Sam Ash is still fun to visit, and every once in a while they get interesting used gear.

I haven't found many good pawn shops. I have not been to Central Music in a while. They used to have a great selection.

There is a huge pawn at Cactus and I17. Most of the gear selection is junk, but you may find something interesting there.

Where are you staying? Metro Phoenix is really spread out, and these shops are all over the valley.

That was gonna be my recommendation also, but it's been years since I lived in Phoenix and wasn't sure if it was still around. I used to get stuff at The Guitar Shoppe in old town Scottsdale, but that folded if I'm not mistaken.

With or without Bob, one of the most uncomfortable places to try a guitar. Not a warm vibe in the least, but a great collection of guitars

Maybe - rather than a guitar shop - you'd enjoy the Musical Instrument Museum's exhibit that opened just a few weeks back, "The Electric Guitar: Inventing an American Icon".

I haven't seen it myself, but it looks interesting.

Think your gonna be a bit disappointed. Sam Ash is about as good as your going to get. Cave Creek guitars is old and dirty, go after 2pm the owner is drinking by then and your likely to be treated better. No Joke! Tucson has the Shop> Rainbow Guitars. Its a must if you come to Ariz. Good Luck!!
