We're going through next week and will be stopping for the day. I'd like to hit some good guitar shops and pawn shops that have guitars and amps. I'm mainly looking for used Peavey amps, especially a Triple X, or well-priced Teles, but enjoy looking through a well-stocked store, especially with cool used stuff.

Mangling notes since '81 in SW Misery
Guitar Center in Overland Park,KS and one in Independence,MO is all i know of anymore.

I used to go to Quigley's and Big Dudes back in the 80's but i don't think they are there anymore. Kansas City has changed a lot since then so sorry no help from me.

Guitar Source on 95th in Overland Park is a good store for amps and stuff, but they only really carry PRS and G&L and high end acoustics anymore - not a lot of name electrics - I think fender/gibson must think they don't sell enough.

I think all the guitar stores were really hurt because Musicians Friend used to have a huge warehouse store here, and you could just walk in and they could bring up anything off of their website. The warehouse store closed, so really just GCs for guitars, unfortunately.

Bummer!

OK, then, KC shopping will be relegated to hitting the malls for the girls...

Thanks.

Well, if you can't look at vintage guitars then the next best thing is looking at girls at the mall...;)

You could stop by Mass. Street Music in Lawrence. I think that's on your way to KC. I haven't been there in years, so I have no idea what they may or may not have in stock. It's not a huge place, but it used to be a pretty cool shop.

I need a good place to shop in either KC or STL...I'm moving to Columbia, MO and it's 2 hours away from both. I really don't like Guitar Center, so I'm kinda hoping theres a largish Fender dealer in the area. I think to get a Gibson there's only about 3 places near, and they're all GCs.

Big Dude's Music City is now at 3817 Broadway in KC. Their website...

You should also check out Guitar Syndicate, 8115 North Oak Trafficway (this is up north of the river). Their website...

Finally, the Best Buy at 11525 Metcalf in Overland Park has a Musical Instruments department that actually has some good bargains from time to time, and the folks I've talked to there actually seem to know what they're doing...

If Quigley Music is gone, good riddance. They were PITA when I was growing up there... ;)

Huh! I live up north and never heard of the Guitar Syndicate. I may have to check it out.

Has to be a couple good mom and pops in Columbia. Lanhams in St Joe usually have a few fenders and they deal. The ebay thing has hit the retail guys pretty hard.

Lanhams in St. Joe is decent. Acoustic selection is limited to mostly Fenders, but have seen Guild and Taylor in store. Electrics are Fender and some B.C. Rich type suff. Check out their web site. Good luck.

Didn't think to mention Lanham Music because St. Joe is a bit of a haul from KC, but I taught in Joetown for nine years, and know some of the folks who run the place. Friendly and helpful. A fairly vanilla selection of Fender stuff, but sometimes they have a nice Custom Shop model or two...

Mass. Street Music in Lawrence

I would say this is your best bet for a well-stocked store, but they probably won't have exactly the gear you listed. It is a good place to kill a few hours.

There is also a place called Bentley's just outside of KC in Parkville. Their site is below and they have some nice gear.

Just an FYI>>Guitar Source just went out of business. I believe their last day was mid-Feb.

Bently guitars in Parkville MO is a great store, they usually have vintage amps, and have a great selection of acoustic guitars. Decent pricing, they will negotiate.

another +1 on Mass St in Lawrence. Good Luck!
