Neil Sargent has been doing repair work for a long time; many satisfied customers, including me. He's also built a line of Dano Electric style guitars.

It's just him in his shop. If he can and you need the guitar for an upcoming gig, he'll do the work while you wait. Be prepared to listen, everybody learns something from Neil.

Hey, brother, I'm a little north. But Straight Frets in Austin does very fine work. He's the guy Collings, Austin Vintage, Guitar Resurrection and others use. He has a PLEK tool in house. If you want it done he's the best service luthier in this part of Texas.

Might hit up Ron Pace. I took a Partscaster to him that I put a new neck on and he cleaned up the frets and nut for me. Great guy and fair priced.

The workers there can be the biggest jerks. Not very honest guys and full of themselves, I don’t recommend.

That might be a little harsh. That store is better known for selling guitars, rather than repairs. It’s 5 minutes from where I live. I’ve known a couple people who work there. Sure, not all great, but not all bad, either.
Sorry you had a bad experience there, but that’s not the whole story.
That being said, I agree that Neil Sargent would be a better choice, IMO.

I'm from New Orleans but, my current residence is in West Louisiana. Houston is a lot closer to me than is New Orleans.

I figured a huge city like Houston would have at least a handful of places within driving distance for guitar repair.

Maybe your right, I should have probably went more into detail.... It’s been almost 10 years since my bad experiences there but the bad treatment was over a few years of time and got worse with each visit. I also lived a few minutes from there just off Kirby. The last time I ever set foot in there I had over $3k in my pocket ready to buy and got ran out by the old salesman who thought I wasn’t worthy to touch their acoustic instruments. I don’t care what their known for, I won’t go back and still won’t recommend them for anything.
