Thought that was a pretty enjoyable read. I was a bit disappointed that 3 of them had some issue (2 setup, 1 fault tone pots) on arrival, but the setup could be explained away easily enough.

Wondered the same..... You'd figure Fender sent these knowing where they were going....... And have a rep deliver them........ Weird.

I was surprised as well considering they were going to a magazine for review.

I like how they generalize that the '52 is "heavier" in weight.
Also I totally disagree about the '64 neck being "thinner" than the '58.

There's a reason why I stopped reading that magazine.

Didn't get much from the review.. Being that set ups are personal preference there's not much to say about the faults the writer mentioned. I personally got much more from Fred's reviews. IMO the article was a FAIL.

    actually the 1.650 is 1 21/32 and not 1 5/8

1 5/8 is 1.625 and was what was original.. not 1.650

    My old strat is 1.625..

Most everyone wrongly advertises 1.650 as 1 5/8.

I had Tommy at USA Custom Guitars make my neck with a true 1.625 for my partscaster..

Tommy did tell me that due to hand sanding back in the old days some guitars did come from the factory with 1 21/32 but the goals was 1 5/8 1.625 but for modern necks they settled for 1.650 as the standard.

    B. Hefner advertises Both Widths.

why don't they put the original string spacing on these "Pure Vintage" series? otherwise...it's just a modern interpretation?

I quit subscribing and reading Guitar Player about a year ago. It's turned into mostly rehashed articles, poor reviews, and now caters to a much younger reader base. I think it's been going downhill since Editor Michael Molenda took over and since they became part of Music Player Network.
