If you possibly can, play Wagon Wheel. Do it for those of us who are so completely sick of that @#$&+ song that we can't physically get our fingers to make a G chord while thinking the words " headed down south."

If you are looking for something that everyone will like....pick any Johnny Cash song. Seriously, it doesn't matter the genre of music they prefer, they still tend to appreciate Cash. It was always our first song just to get off to a good start.

As for me, I prefer to only learn story songs that are not well known. I think all the greatest songs are story based and by choosing some B-side stuff, people will not have the original to compare you to in their mind.

Actually, I didn't add a a Johnny Cash song to my earlier list because I wanted to keep it short. But yes, I agree; a Johnny Cash song for sure.

Rock on with your bad self! Nobody's going to accuse you of pandering to the masses!
The camp has some of my favorite guitarists: Andy Timmons, Eric Johnson, Andy Wood, Mark Lettieri, Greg Koch and Brent Mason. There are others that I'm not familiar with but I'm sure they are top notch. Guaranteed they'll know the tunes I chose. I'm still on the fence about spending $3 grand plus, but I know it is money well spent.

Chris Stapleton songs are always good. If you can sing them. His cover of Tennessee Whiskey always fills the dance floor. Guitar parts are pretty easy but vocals are tough.

Title says it all. I play original tunes. I've learned covers for projects in the past, but they fall out of my head as soon as that particular project is over. I'm fairly proficient at guitar, not great but I'm not bad. What songs are the most popular at open mics or at bars? As you can deduce, I don't get out much...
Ice (Camel)
The Mysts of Time (John Mayall)
Dear Mr Fantasy (Traffic)
Broadway (Ian Moss)
Overkill (Colin Hay)
Can't find my way home (Blind Faith)
Crossing the line (Go)
Openings (Sebastian Hardie)
The sky is crying (Gary B.B Coleman)

I should've been more clear. I'm not a singer and the instructors at this camp are all phenomenal, some of the best guitarists in the industry. The tunes we'd jam on will likely be classic rock, so anyone can jump in. My originals aren't jam material, they are a bit more complex and require a rehearsal or five to get down.
This will be all electric, I doubt any acoustic guitars will be used.

If they are classic rock tunes that you can jump in on then maybe some Santana like Black Magic Woman. An instrumental would be Europa. Lynyrd Skynyrd tunes work well. Allman Brothers are always great jam tunes. In Memory of Elizabeth Reed etc... Jeff Beck tunes. Trying to give you some artists where you can listen to the tunes you may like not just a specific tune, just point you in that directions.

Open mics....solo...whatever song you can do well....if your playing with the house band as backup....stick with any 3 chord boogie or blues or country....I'm in the local house band for open mic.....anything other than this is a recipe for crash and burn.....no sultans,Hotel California or anything with lots of changes if your going to front the house band.....my 2c with 1-1/2 years as an open mic member of the house band.
