Reading the “musical instruments” ads on Craigslist is always entertaining. I don’t know who they think they’re fooling with the way they present some of the things that they do.

Words like “VINTAGE!”, “RARE!”, “MINT!” and “COLLECTABLE!” applied randomly to guitars that most experienced players would say were none of those things.

That said, this meme tickled my funny bone today -

The key is "most experienced players"....most ads are targeting the new players who are so excited after learning a few chords. Let's face it, those are the ones doing most of the shopping these days. To the younger crowd, that old amp from the '80's is a freaking antique...it is older than their parents.

There is room at the trough for all.

Or how about, "Great for Modding", then there would invariably be an "All Parts Store, Seriously, We Have Everything".
Never Fails. Ha, Ha..

The dumbest one I ever saw was for an acoustic 6 string and he/she stated: “Just had it tuned.”
Wow? Really? You just went to all the trouble to have it tuned and now you’re selling it?
Yep, I see that one now and then. "Needs to be tuned but otherwise..."

Or with a guitar or amp, "A little dusty but works fine". Just wipe the thing off before you list it.

Serial offenders in my local craigslist of misuse of the word "mint". Some must just not be aware of what mint condition means, because their photos of the gear in question clearly depict scratches, dings, dents, etc. Others are self-aware and just wrong, "mint condition EXCEPT for *insert laundry list of issues that make it not mint*".

But my favorites are the recent crop of modded Player Fenders asking MIA Fender prices "because that's how much money I put in to modding it".

That one, and “plays like buttah!” - that means absolutely nothing to me besides “move along, folks - nothing to see here.”
I usually take that as meaning they want full price for the guitar and the price of a custom up sold setup.

I had a CL addiction about five years ago where every morning early I perused CL looking for a deal.

I did find a few great deals but also a ton of crazy ads.

My favorite was a guy selling a Fender Stratocaster for $200 with hard shell case.
I figured, that is a deal so I opened the ad.

The first picture showed a body without the headstock. It was Strat shaped, had three pickups and a tremolo bridge. The second picture showed the back of the guitar, no headstock on that one either and the back plate was missing.
That was it. Still I was intrigued so I shot off a message asking for more pictures.

The pictures I got back were first off not of the same guitar as the guitar in the add was Daphne Blue. The pictures that I received showed the guitar was white.

And the headstock, well it wasn't a Fender.

I saw this picture and passed as I wasn't up to speed on my Ibanez models.

Years later I happened to be in a music store and saw the same guitar on the wall for sale for $500.

The ones that get me know are "Fender Telecaster"
so you open the ad and it is a Squier.

Or the worst, "Fender Stratocaster"
and the ad pictures show a "starcaster"

Also add "driven but not abused", "original tires and oil"...
