Regarding the battery operated units.........don't waste your money!! I bought one a few years for the convenience factor but it nearly broke me replacing the batteries quite often.

My advice is to only use mains operated hand tools...........much easier to maintain and they don't flatten batteries!!!!

NGD... new grinder day...:)

awwww...:( my near 25yr old 4" Makita grinder smoked it up last week during light use... armature looks burned, brushes still ok... smoke came out the disc end vent not the tail end...it had a hard life, as metal work tools often do, I think I got my moneys worth..;)

This popped up for 60 posted..cheap enough for a brand name unit... it arrived in the post today, the mail man drove up and put it at my back door and was back in the van before I realised someone was there.... I yelled out a sincere thanks and gave the thumbs up..:)

I use a Makita and like it very much.

This. I spent most of my working life at oil refineries and power plants. Makita 5" grinders were what we were issued (mostly) because of their quality/durability.

Were I buying one for home use, I'd go with the lighter 4" (Or is it 4.5"?) one in the photo.

I've owned a couple brands, Bosch, dewalt... to be honest they are all about the same for Hobbie level use. Have used my Bosch true 1 set of brushes & into the next.

I haven't used one on a guitar in years. I moved to a belt sander in ark motion for some years for belly cuts. I finally moved to cutting them on the band saw followed by 3" drum oscillating sander to smooth.
