i had an idea for a gretsch tele cross it would have a orange double cutaway tele body white binding a bigsby and two tv jones pickups. i know the la cabronita is supose to be a hybrid of the two but i think my idea sounds better.

    what do you guys think:D

I'd go single cutaway, and thinline.

Fender owns Gretsch nowadays, I'm really surprised they haven't done something like this.

Check out the builders section here, there's been several variations of this done by members, they all look pretty cool

    Oh really?

Paul Waller of the Fender Custom Shop built the ultimate Gretsch-Tele hybrid.

That's gorgeous...but I'd consider it a Gretsch guitar with a tele shaped body and headstock. Not sure if there are enough tele characteristics to define it a hybrid.

I'd be happy to own it though, whatever it is.

I've been a Gretsch player since 2002 (my current Gretsches are a G6118 Anniversary, and a G5250 Special Jet). I can tell you with 100% certainty, that Fender does NOT own Gretsch. The Gretsch family (specifically Fred Gretsch III), bought back the rights to Gretsch from Baldwin, in the late 80s. The reason people get confused about this, is because back in late 2002, due to distribution, manufacturing, and quality issues, Fred Gretsch contracted with Fender, to take over the manufacturing, and distribution of Gretsch guitars. Fender still does that to this day (Joe Carducci of Fender is in overall charge of Fender's side of things, I've met him at a couple of Fred & Joe roadshows - he's nice guy, and a great guitar player). But, the Gretsch family has final decision making powers in what will be done with the guitars. Fender cannot make major changes to anything involving Gretsch guitars, without the final OK of Fred Gretsch III.

As for the Tele-Gretsch - I'm not a big fan of it. I like Teles for what they are, and I like Gretches for what they are. I really don't have a desire for a Gretsch-Tele hybrid.

Yep, Gretsch makes a few hollowbodies with either HiloTrons or Dynasonics, which are both single coil pickups. The 6117 Anniversary, and one of the Tennessee Rose models come with Hilos - and I believe one of the Falcon's (Black, White, Silver) and the Country Club come with Dynas. There maybe others too.

Yep, some of the 6120s Have Dynas, as do some Black Falcons. I had a 2003 Country Club with Dynas (I sure do MISS that guitar - I wish I hadn't had to sell it to make good on an eBay auction payment I screwed up on :()

My old Country Club, the day it was delivered to my office at work (I bought it as NOS)

Would both cutaways have deep cuts like the lower horn of a Telecaster? Would be no doubt striking to look at in orange, though aesthetically a bit funky, methinks.

I'm trying to imagine your idea kinda having a Gretschy orange TC-90 look about it.

I think they call that the white chicken. Bono plays a green chicken which looks fantastic.

That's got to be another Paul Waller. In fact closer examination of the picture shows that to be Paul Waller's Fender badge. I heard these were selling for around $7K a few years ago.

Just found this picture of the orange hybrid.

I've just started a White Chicken style build myself, it'll be a carve-top & flat back though for more of a Jet feel. :)
