    Hi,
I'm building a cabronita style guitar and I sourced a tele body from guitarfetish routed for filtertrons, the cavities measure 73*36 mm which fits most tv jones and the Gretsch hs bridge pickup which measures 72*35mm by direct mounting using wood screws. However, the neck pickup from the Gretsch hs set has a backplate that protrudes from the sides making the pickup 80.3mm wide, is this plate removeable? How do I go about installing this pickup in the cabronita body?
    Thank you.

I did similar with a drill mounted sanding drum. Fast and easy to control.

I grind off my ears, but that's only to fit an English mount. If you have a clean, no pickguard surface mount, you're gonna need to be more surgical. A Dremel is fine but mind the kick back.

The other potential problem is the screw length. HS Filter poles screws protrude out the back and you might have to route a clearing for them, but it depends on the routing depth.

TV Jones Classics and Powertrons don't have that lip sticking out, I have both of those in guitars.

Just use 2 neck pickups. They aren't that much different output-wise.

This would require grinding off four brass wings instead of just two. But it’s a good way to the get a more ‘vintage’ Gretsch tone, after getting some of the wax off the coil.

The bridge pickups are a bit taller. May not be a problem. The annoying long screws could be though.

I don't know how people can suggest a saw for the base plate or clipping the screws (in another thread). That would just about be a caveman job.

I certainly don't own any tool that would really clip the screws, although I guess I might be able to saw them. Not that I would enjoy doing it.

Philly Luthier sells 0.75” poles screws, 6-40 thread. I bought them to convert modern Blacktops, but never did anything with them. Note, Blacktop screws are thinner, and are 0.83” tall, they don’t stick out the bottom as much as HS Filters.

Rather than route a channel, swapping screws might be an option, if the threads match.
