I was eyeing up one of these for sale used locally. I looked up specs and can't find much information about the pickups besides that they are 'mini humbuckers'. Does these pickups have that 'Gretsch tone'?

Reviews seem mixed. Guitar Player didn't like them. Several people online over at Harmony-Central have no prob with theirs.

I avoided the issue by getting a Special Jet instead, they come with USA-made DeArmond single coil pickups stock.

That's a great looking model. I have never seen one of those before. I need something that has a Bigsby/tremolo on it too though.

TDU,
I have an Electromatic Pro Jet. Picked it up used, very cheap. And it's a nice guitar. The pickups are low-output. Some would call them weak. They are on the bright side and in that respect have some of the Gretsch thing happening.
It's a useful and usable guitar and used, they seem to go pretty cheap...

I have a pro jet without the bigsby. I really like it, though i changed the pickups with GFS NYII's. The original pickups were just to low output for me.

Thanks for the info. Looking into used prices, the local guy just wants way too much for his. Especially considering the Canadian $ is at 91 cents right now. I might be better looking for a used on in the States.

The guy is asking $600 Canadian for it, which seems WAY to high from what I read online.

Yeah, that's nuts. I got my Special Jet for $235 USD (+shipping) on Ebay. I hadn't really planned on buying one, but at that price I couldn't resist. Iirc the Special Jets actually have the same MSRP ($700 USD) as the Bigsby'd Pro Jets; I'm guessing the price differential in the Pro's offshore pickups and the Special's DeArmonds offsets the Bigsby and binding on the Pro's.

The new "street" price in the US for these is $490.

Yeah, even considering the exchange rate, $600 Canadian seems kinda high.
I paid $250 for a used one at a local shop. It was hard to turn down at that price.

Guitars are higher priced in Canada, even beyond the exchange rate I have found. When the $ is as good as it is now, the prices don't go down accordingly. Basically this is a case of someone thinking because the guitar is barely used, it's worth the same as what they paid for it new though from what I can tell. It's a very common "Toronto Craigslist Syndrome"
