This is a sweet looking guitar. I had a Gretsch 5127, also with Dynasonics, and it sounded great. I sold it because I have a Guild DeArmond M175T which is similar but solid bodied so I didn't have as much feedback issues with it in a live setting. But if I get a hankering for a hollow Gretsch style guitar again, this is definitely on my list. Love the color and all the design choices they made.

I'd love to check one out. It is almost twice the price of a Gretsch 5420T. Looks like they are both made in South Korea. I wonder if the Guild is better built? I do like that blue color.

I could see one of those eventually landing at my place.

I haven’t played the new model, but I owned several Electromatics, including two G5420Ts at one time, and still own a MIK Guild SF-V. The are about the same, quality wise. The Guild bests the Electro with a 5 piece neck, bone nut, but otherwise, its the same quality, IME.

I bought a set of Guild/Cordoba’s new DeArmond Dynasonics (the pickups in this Manhattan), and they are very nice tributes. They are not, IMHO, a real-deal DeArmond Model 2000s. They dont have the right bobbin and the tall magnet assembly, and are a little underwound, probably. They appear to be a rehash of the FMIC DeArmond 2000s. No, no, don’t get that confused with the FMIC DeArmond 2ks found in older Guilds like the M75, which are built more like P90s.

Long story short, the new Guild Dynasonics are excellent, but way too much wax potting. They replaced TV Jones T-Armonds, Gretsch Dynasonics, and even a vintage 50s Dyna/DeArmond in my 50s style Streamliner— they are that good to my ears.

I posted some review over at G-T....for any interested. Maybe I posted here too? I can’t remember and too lazy to hit “search” twice.

Back in the 70s, my main guitar was a Guild X170, and in the 90s a Guild X175, both USA made. Their sound was solidly in the Gibson camp. This iteration seems to have a somewhat wider range of tonal variation than the Guilds I played. I found the old Guild pickups to be a bit on the muffled side. The pickups on the new Guild played in the video nailed everything from a woody jazzbo sound to almost Tele-esque twang, and everything in between. While I'm not particularly into overdriven sounds, This guitar is impressive in that area, as well.

I like all the Dynasonic variants. Like P90s it seems like even the cheaper ones sound great.

And the demo v enjoyable. I’d pick one up used in couple of years.

It is a big price jump from Electromatic 512x...about $1499 vs. $849....

I have 2 Gretsch Electromatics, one hollow body and one center block, and they are both really good guitars. I paid less than $849.00 for each of them, one on sale at GC, one on closeout from another online source for nearly 1/2 the $849 figure.

I'm still interested in the Guild, though. They may eventually go on sale as well.

Not a lot of people like the real deal lol...I’d say true Dynasonics are way more fussy than a P90, which is more like the hammer of pickups, and like a hammer you could make one with a stick and rock :) The Dyna, well, the elevator mechanism is the deal (to squeal?), and more expensive to produce...

But I’m straying off point, these new Dynas are pretty awesome. The older FMIC DeArmond 2000s are on the weak side, but super twangy. The bridge pickup wasn’t chewy enough, IMHO, but the now slightly higher wound Guild Dyna bridge pickup seems to have corrected that.

It's a larger guitar though 17" vs 16" inch with an arched spruce top and ebony board.
The 9.5 inch radius could be fun too.

I really like the 2ks in my M75T. I think I had the same ones in my Gretsch 5127-- at least they sounded pretty much the same. They are pretty close to P90s in terms of power but just a bit brighter with more highs and a little less wooly in the mids.

That’s awesome, I’m a recent Guild dynasonic convert.

I actually read the Gretsch forum post right after I got my starfire, trying to figure out what dynasonics were.
I had no idea it was from a fellow forum members exploration

    yeah.... I noticed that.....

    I only buy used guitars

Ok except the 2020 Broadcaster I ordered.

I’ve already been a bad, bad boy this year and I must be good for a while.

Must have been hard to find a lake placid blue Broadcaster

I’m just kidding, I’ve got my sights on a broadcaster too. Might be a while now though

How bad could you’ve been 3 months into the year?
