OK,I just have to ask about the Chicago Store sticker on the back of the headstock. They moved from the West Congress St.address shown on the sticker in 1967.So was it on your guitar when you got it?

My recollection is that they were still on Congress, near the Congress Hotel? When I went there about 20 years ago. No?

Still there, although the last time I was in they had straightened up a lot of the jumble (I liked the jumble).

They now have an Annex on the East side of town at 7030 E Broadway Blvd.

I like stopping in there when I get to Tucson.Lived there back in the '60s and taught guitar at the Chicago Store's Eastside branch,Music Land, now long gone.
Back to that sticker. The 5 digit phone number makes it older than the original of the re-issue it's on.With all the trash and treasure that sat moldering in the back of the Chicago Store for decades on end,it's entirely possible there was a stash of old stickers that somebody found and used for effect.Or maybe the re-issue industry extends to store labels now.....
Anyhow,I saw a lot of those back in the day,so thanks to Tonewoods for the blast from the past.

Everyone knows the vintage stickers sound the best. Current 10-digit stickers sound like crap. The 7-digit stickers were good. 5-digit stickers though... Holy Grail.

I've got a new (used) black Pro Jet on the way from eBay. My old man has an old Country Gentleman. Pictures as soon as I can.

Been gigged with extensively by two previous owners, definitely refretted, electrified in the nineties, hard urethane finish starting to fade and even a few cracks visible from close by. Has had tuning issues and is not too fantastic plugged in, but acoustically I rather like it. Good dynamics and trebles. A relatively new instrument with lots of mileage.

Had to update this one, I've modded the two I posted earlier, and got a new (to me) one in the time being too.

5129 with TV Classics and a Space Control bridge

5120 with GFS Surf 90s, Space Control bridge, custom pickup bezels, treble bleed (master volume), and new pickguard (came with clear one).

    Of course!

What are all the switches for? I've got a Brian Setzer Hot Rod, it only has 1 knob and 1 switch!

    A Gretsch Again

I sold my Chet Atkins Nashville in the late 80's, always kinda regretted it... so I bought a slightly used 5120 a few days ago, and I love it. Painted the clear pickguard, and added schaller straplocks. Now my other guitars will sit for a bit while it gets all the attention...
