    Hello TDPRI,

I finally joined here, as I am a long time searcher, and am finally now starting my own homemade Tele. Got a light weight pine body off Evilbay (3lbs 9ozs) that got routed for a P90 in the neck position. Will put a mini-bucker rail in the bridge; all HW is aged gold and I'm doing my own Mary Kay finish on the body.

Check out the pics so far. Glad to be here "officially" now Just T body.JPG Mary Kay fin 1st coat Backside.jpg Tele back w gold neck plate.JPG

Now’s the time to paint before our humidity comes back!

I've always kind of wondered how intense humidity affects guitars. Does it wreak any havoc on tuning and set up?

It’s not that big of a deal on setup and tuning, but for spraying paint you really have to pick your days. In the winter it’s a lot more paint-friendly.

Right??!! It's raining right now however, but I've got the AC on and applying tung oil/mineral spirit with a brush (not spraying) so I'll be OK.

Today would not be a good day for lacquer, but at least in the winter we know we’ll get some good days soon. In the summer it’s like a search to snag a few hours under 70% so you can spray.

Been mostly an acoustic git player- and for theses axes that are not constructed with laminated wood + humidity really swells all the wood & makes them dull sounding. All wood acoustics need to be around 50% RH to sound & play their best.

As for electrics- I'm guessing that really high humidity will move the neck around- back or up bow it some; maybe requiring a truss rod tweak.

If you run into "blushing" (the white-ish, cloudy lacquer coloring) you can hit it with some blush eraser once it's cured a bit. I've had to do that when the RH was high during spraying.

Top full view one coat Tung oil.jpg Build Update 12/19

Mary Kay white stain on top, sides, & back now. One coat of Tung oil also done. Copper foiled the control cavity & neck pup route.
