What's the distinguishes a Power Ballad from a Rock Ballad? I'm pretty sure I don't know but this ballad has serious power.

Tough choice because I'm so burned out on most popular power ballads.

But i not quite sick of this one yet. And it's catchy.

    Greatest in what way?

I heard Sister Christian on the radio the other day and was thinking that it was the perfect example of an '80s pop metal power ballad.

If you want something I think is truly a great song I'll say Bonnie Tyler's Total Eclipse of the Heart. Loved Jim Steinman's composition.

Pink Floyd didn't do power ballads, did they?

For some reason Floyd is just Floyd to me. That's their style - Floyd.

This dude’s vocal range should be registered as a weapon.

I think you may have something with
    " Sister Christian"

I was gonna maybe pick a Journey song, but all they do are power ballads, or power pop.
Better to pick a group doing something out of their usual comfort zone.

I can't (now) think of anything that epic, that powerful right now.

To the OP's The Who pick,

Maybe " Love Reign O'er ( On) Me" fits too?

I don't know if any of these qualify. When I think of a "Power Ballad", I think of song having multiple movements:

This one is closer to genre, but might have ended the power ballad. It's truly unbelievable that this has over a billion plays on YouTube

This is what a power ballad should be:

Without You has even more power, when performed live by Heart. ;)

    And...
Does November Rain count? I thought of it immediately upon reading the thread title. It's the only GNR song I can remotely tolerate, and Wikipedia says it is indeed a power ballad (I checked before posting! :D)

Edit: oops. I missed a post above. Sorry.

Thanks for posting ... good listen and a great throwback. Love that one - definitely one of the Who's best. They were really magic in their day.

This is the correct answer. The template, and it has never really been topped.
