I was at a gig the other day with about a dozen assorted stagehands and technicians plying their various trades around the stage. Somebody sang the line "always look on the bright side of life," and was answered by a dozen whistles from all corners of the venue. Monty Python And The Holy Grail is the greatest comedy of all time.

Just watch the news, it's basically the same thing.

Having said that Holy Grail would be my #1 pick, followed closely by Spaceballs.

Young Frankenstein is just too good!
It may be a top 5 Movie, any genre for me ( and our family)

Runner-up: Paper Moon. (It's also a very poignant movie.)

I’m feeling the urge to make a poll:

    GREATEST COMEDY OF ALL TIME

    1) YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN
    2) MPATHG
    3) IDIOCRACY
    4) THE BIG LEBOWSKI

and since this is a music gear site...

    5) THIS IS SPINAL TAP

Am I missing anything that has gotten multiple mentions here? BLAZING SADDLES perhaps?

I remember watching this with my band at our apartment. It was difficult to tear ourselves away from the music, as well as the high school girls, but it was 1971 and we were 18. "Start the Revolution..." fit exactly the attitude we had at that point.

Another youthful favorite: Something Happened on the Way to the Forum.

This is an impossible question because the appreciation of comedy is personal. I was raised on British and Australian humour, so no surprise that I can't get much of American comedy.

Spike Milligan and the rest of the Goons must feature somewhere up there in the great comedy stratosphere.

In my time RV with Robyn Williams. Didn't know anything about it till I was flying from Thailand to Bangkok and was seated away from the ex with a German couple. His wife slept and we laughed so much at this credulously funny family and the other " hicks" that were , in fact, highly intelligent. Will never forget that scene of a shower of s..t that falls on Williams when his trailer needs emptying of human waste. We both laughed so much and it made for a very happy flight.
