Old show that I cannot remember the name of at the moment. Was black and white. The guy was some sort of aristocrat (wealthy, had land, and politically incorrect). He always made offensive statements and had a woman always by his side he would order around. She would always reply, "yes, my lord."

First time I visited the Philippines, I noticed that Mr Bean is quite popular there in syndication. I thought, "That's odd, why do Filipinos like Mr Bean but have no affinity for any other British TV shows?"

Then it hit me, and I realised one of the things that makes Mr Bean so brilliantly conceived: there's almost no dialogue, so it can be understood by anyone in any language.

Exactly. I was introduced to Mr. Bean by my wife (then merely girlfriend) who is from Japan. That character transcends language. He can kill us with an eye brow. Jackie Chan is like that too.
