i have long lamented my utter lack of talent, and lack of stick-to-itveness, for guitar playing. Then tonight, watching a PBS pledge break oldies show, my wife remarked “ you never play Angel Baby for me any more”. I was lucky in that back in my band days, 3-chord, simple C, Am,F,G, elementary blues progressions and the like would carry you through, and you’d have a passable set list of current and more recent oldies. I tuned up the old Gretsch, and ran through Angel Baby, my wife and I swapping falsettos in emulation of Rosie, whom I learned, passed away in March of 2017. Great fun. Instead of being frustrated as I usually am trying to play more modern, complex stuff, I really enjoyed it for a change, and set me to thinking about good (usually, but not necessarily old) songs with simple chords and easy progressions like, well, Angel Baby, a real classic powerhouse, the charm of which is partially due to the fact that it was so unpolished and amateurish. What other songs fit this bill?
