I don't know, he names all the reasons why people wage war: Religion, countries, possessions and goes "What if we didn't have all those reason people go to war over?"

My point exactly. It’s like the contestant on the quiz show whose special subject was “Statements of the bloody obvious”

Better than those songs a few years ago that were mostly "whoa whoa whoa" where they had no lyrics for the music...!

When I was younger (and sometimes still) I really dug the early Black Sabbath records. The music was heavy, well played and Ozzy's singing suited the music well.
But those corny "devil" lyrics always made me cringe...

With McArthur Park, I like the irony of the rain spoiling the cake when the singer will never have the recipe again.

    Pretty sure this qualifies

There she stood in the street
Smiling from her head to her feet
I said hey, what is this
Now baby, maybe she's in need of a kiss

Well the music isn t great, but America's lyrics truely suck. ..."Rocks and things" , bad enough but just stupid and inarticulate, ..." Like an Eagle in the eye of a hurricane that's abandoned" takes the prize.

Of course "Ironic" contains zero situations of irony.

I actualy thought Sabbath had some of the best lyrics in the metal genre. Songs like After Forever, War Pigs, Sabbath Bloody Sabbath, A National Acrobat, Who Are You, Spiral Architect, Killing Yourself To Live and Looking For Today show they were more intellectual than the "devil" and "let's get loaded" stereotype would suggest (although they did have a lot of songs about getting loaded too, like Snowblind and Sweat Leaf).

I'm not knocking all their lyrics. I was thinking more along the lines of "my name is Lucifer, please take my hand". Believe me, it never stopped me from blasting their records

Yeah; Frampton is OK-once you get past that damned 'voice' contraption gimmick he is using!! (I am so glad to see that sound relegated to the 'heap'.)

I like a lot of REM songs...

“Shiny Happy People” and “Stand” have great music...lyrics, not so much.

Pay Benetar’s “The Ooo Song” makes me think she lost a bet

Respectfully disagree (Billy Breathes entire album , Blaze On, Lifeboy, etc.) Yes they have songs with playful nonsensical lyrics, but it is intentionally done and usually tastefully. I don't mind the whimsy

    "Great music, terrible lyrics..."

For years I've been thinking that the rock & roll song most in need of new lyrics is "Paperback Writer" by the Beatles. Great music, great hooks, senseless lyrics! Apparently, Paul's auntie asked him if he could write a song "that wasn't about love"!

IIRC That was put in as a place holder so they could go on with production while the lyrics were being finished. Obviously, that didn’t happen.
