How about Luis Salinas from Argentina? My wife, from Buenos Aires, has met him several times. Very open, humble person which is always nice to see.

He's a solid player, and he clearly has spent the time finding the right combination of axe, amp and effects to produce an arresting tone. I looked at the gear page on his website and he's using popular stomps such ad TS and OCD, but he's using them the right way.

Tony Spinner was in Toto for a while, where he was overshadowed by Steve Lukather. But he's a fine player:

Would Jack Pearson qualify as unheard of?

Steven Wilson of Porcupine Tree is an underrated player even while his band is greatly respected. Listen to his awesome solo on this (solo album) tune. Just incredible.

+ for Tony Hicks (love the Hollies) and Jack Pearson. I would add - Snooks Eaglin, Derek O'Brien, Jim Weider, Pete Kanaris, Eddie Hinton, Tippy Armstrong, and Pete Carr.

Woody Weatherman from Corrosion Of Conformity! Great Stoner rock band that had some awesome realises in the 90's. His style of playing was very bluesy, but yet also super aggresive. Deliverance and In The Arms of God are two albums that still get heavy play from me.

Not in these parts but i find it criminal when musicians in my area say "whos Roy Buchanan?". Is he that unknown outside the guitar geek universe?
