I was a hunter, killed 3 deers and ate them to the last bit of meat.
However, I wouldn’t be caught dead posing in a picture with a dead animal.
Do you pose for pictures with your grocery bags?
This subject always comes up on the archery forum, a lot of hunters are against those pictures.
Like, at least wipe the blood off the animal.
A dead animal is NOT a trophy.
    It’s a dead animal.

By the way, there aren't two sides in this argument, but multiple (with lots of stops between the two extremes). I hope people have figured that out from all the posts so far.

I am not disturbed by the image itself. I am not disturbed by the idea of hunting for food. What disturbs me is the suspicion I have that some people enjoy killing. That idea just makes me pessimistic about the future.
Having said that, if people feel the need to kill, it might as well be animals. That's the glass half-full perspective. ;-)

Hey, you’ve outed me! I am indeed a Bambi lover who trawls Internet forums in the hope that I will luck out in finding offensive photographs of otherwise civilised folk revelling in the destruction of defenceless creatures. I couldn’t find anything that would feed my compulsion on Cake-Baking-Talk or on Cross-Stitching-Discussion-Page but wow! did I ever hit paydirt on this here Telecaster site. OK, let’s be serious here - there’s not really anything ‘weird’ about me piping up on this thread. I joined TDPRI back in June of last year when I was in the process of buying a custom shop Tele. I found the standard of guitar-related discussion on this forum outstanding. I often wanted to contribute to threads but failed to do so, maybe because I felt that I didn’t have the same level of expertise as many other members. I was content to be a ‘reader’ rather than a contributor. I know that doesn’t go down well with many folks around here, but that’s how it was. But, today’s post about this deer-hunting thing....I felt I had to say something for once. Who knows, maybe this will encourage me to come out of my shell a bit more - although I think there may well be some on here who will not thank me for that!

IME, most of the pictures I see are children or young adults with their first deer. They are proud. It's understandable. I have only one photo of myself with a deer and it was a moment I was proud of when I was young. The first Quail I ever shot, I took a wing and mounted it on a piece of wood I carved and stained. And I presented it to my uncle, who still has it forty odd years later. I was proud of it.

As an aside, anyone who thinks it's easy to get a big, old buck close enough to you that you can kill it with a handgun or a bow is mistaken. THAT is hunting.

    Nice buck!

I’m on day 4 in MI after 13 straight in NW ONT and haven’t even lifted my rifle off my lap. Big bucks were scarce in ONT, and where I’m hunting in MI a very heavy & lasting wintry blast last April seems to have really hindered antler growth. We’ve seen some old large bucks with rather tiny racks. So it’s likely gonna be a doe that helps put venison back in my freezer. Ate the last of these last night at camp!

Congrats on her first deer . So far the family has 1 moose and 2 mule deer for the year , whitetail starts this week so hopefully 2 of those .
Throw in one hog one old hamburger cow with the wild meat and we have food for four families until next fall. Then next week the fun starts with sausage, bacon, corned beef and pastrami

If you looked real close at that photo
The rifle barrel was actually aimed behind her.

So, I removed the photo for one reason and one reason only. I am sorry that I presented a photo that caused so much controversy in so many ways. This photo in my family will be a cherished item for years to come. So we must live differently, than some of you, and have for more than a hundred years. That does not make us a bad family. I am proud of my granddaughter and wish I was there with her. Her last text to me last night was "Miss you!"
So the reason was hate. I will do nothing to encourage hate on this forum and please accept my humble apologies to those offended. All of you....have a nice day.

Ahh, okay. Although just to be clear I haven't said any of those things ( and I'm not saying you said I did but they are within a post including a quote from me).

It’s unfortunate that cultural differences can incite such vitriol.
