Actually Bonnie Raitt winning was majorly cool... I didn't watch it but it's definitely cool for a 73-yro to beat the likes of Beyoncé and that other one.
A 73 year old who’s a living legend, oozing with talent.

But one that literary nobody is listening to in 2023. That’s why it’s so weird. It wouldn’t be controversial to give her a lifetime achievement award or to even name a category after her like they did for Dre. But her time was decades ago.

She’s great. Not trying to be a jerk. But she’s sold 500,000 units of the album.

Just saying, Bey has 180 Million streams in 1 week, 200,000 sales in 1 week. You just can’t make the comparison to validate the award going to Raitt.

Not to be a hater. But Raitt plays 1,500 seat theaters and they don’t always sell out.

There was no song on the nominee list with fewer than 20 times the streams and sales.

Raitt is a legend but this was a miss. And our kids will be talking about the time the morons at the Academy gave song of the year to Raitt the same way we talk about them calling Jethro Tull “metal”. Miss.

Bonnie's award was determined by votes from the NARAS members.
You have to be active in the recording industry to vote.

She was voted by her peers.

You go girl!

Anyone watching? How many Telecasters will we see?

Sorry, I have no interest in it. The "music industry" isn't really interested in music or musicians. Its just interested in how many bought-and-paid-for "artists" they can cram down an unsuspecting public's throat.

Real musicians don't need grammys, and won't get many of them either.

And I apologize in advance but here we go anyway--how many awards would "Bennie Rait" have won?

Everything about the grammys has an agenda, and even their "that's nice" moments are calculated, like Jethro Tull winning that "metal" (or hard rock) grammy over Metallica way back when.

But wasn't her award for Best Song? Not sure units shifted or seats filled or any other criteria would be relevant, it's just an entirely subjective vote on how good the voters think specific songs are.

One thing's for sure, Chris Stapleton had to actually be playing that guitar solo live. Because there's no way in the world somebody would have recorded that and then faked playing over it lol My god that was awful

I appreciate it when a big-timer gets the spotlight and ends up playing a solo that I could pull off. Stapleton didn't look like he was having any fun up there.

That's because he knew he was ____-ing the bed with his solo, right in front of one of the all time music heroes of the universe. I felt bad for him. I'm sure he's a good player, but that was awful. He did well on the vocals, though.

I watched the clip just to see. The guitar playing was pretty bad...but he seemed a bit out of his element in the whole segment, at least to me.

I'd hate to have to solo on a song already out of my wheelhouse, in front of about a gazillion people.

I cannot remember how long it's been since I watched an awards program of any kind. Two or three decades, at least.

That’s why you practice beforehand. He seemed like he practiced the vocals but was winging the guitar solo, and that was a mistake.
