Dear oracle of tdpri,

I hope you are all doing fine this Sunday morning/afternoon/evening.

I really am craving for a shell pink (or something close) tele. I have a previously much abused body for the deed but I have a problem: I don't have the tools for mixing and spraying lacquer.

I have previously used acrylic spray cans with good results but no shell pink (or anything close) cans where I live. I found something reasonably close among graffiti sprays (http://www.molotow.com/products/artist-line/).

I was wondering if I could use those as a color coat to go under acrylic clear.

Thanks in advance for any guidance!

"The PREMIUM series stands for highest UV- and weather-resistance, optimized low-pressure adjustment for clear and exact lines (0,5 to 30cm), 4 times ground genuine car pigments (Auto-K) and the unique nitro-alkyd compound based on the patented MOLOTOW™ technology (all-season™, no-dust™, anti-drip™, covers-all™). This guarantees unequaled reliability, coverage and precision and makes it THE reference spray can on the aerosol market. MOLOTOW™ quality made in Germany – by belt on®."

I think you are good.

:)

If it is "Alkyd", and if it "covers-all", then your acrylic clearcoat may not bond correctly over it, see if they have a specific clearcoat for this.

Belton (associated with Molotov) makes a nice Nitrocellulosic paint: SpectRAL, and a clearcoa for it. But then you will have to care for the primer coat...

Thanks. Yes I figured as much when I realised the Premium series was alkyd. They have a clear in the same series, which I'm now planning to use. Hope that works.

I've used Molotow cans before today, but I've not found a clear coat that bonds with them. I know that Halfords matt finish clear will, but I don't like that look so much.
