Some of you maybe saw me post about this earlier- I was hired over text for a new project-mostly 50s stuff (Elvis, Chuck, Carl Perkins, Buddy Holly), but also things like the great Nick Lowe song "(What's so Funny 'Bout) Peace, Love, and Understanding?"

Went very well I think. Totally distanced/masked, the guy has a couple amps in his prac space so I don't have to schlep.

They all had me at an advantage as they all knew of me, the bassist remarked "cool, I was hoping you'd bring that guitar!".

Still early to book gigs, but it's great to actually get together with a full band. This has got to be the first time since August.

Looking forward to working with these guys

I'm anxious and "itching" to get back together with the guys I was playing with, but I know after a practice or two, the old frustration with the bassist will return. What you say about the other guys being good is so important......playing with good players can elevate EVERYONE'S performance, and playing with "bad" players will just drag everyone down to that level.
So, torch....is this band # 4 or 5 for you?

Cool, I think I know how you feel.
We have been practicing every weekend lately, and gigs for this summer are starting to come in, slowly. Got 2 so far, both outdoors, one paying and one benefit. It's a start.

Depending on which projects successfully resurrect-
This will be for sure three, and possibly five.

Well, and that other one, with the vinyl release that came out just as everything hit the fan- would make it possibly six, if we can regroup for a album release gig, and then do some more promotion of that

I predict a good live music year for 2021. I have 30 gigs on the books through August, so far.

Good deal @blowtorch !! Our band has been getting together for 2 years now, rehearsing etc. and recording. Then the covid struck and killed all gigs. Things are slowly starting to open back up but over the last year we replaced our drummer for a better one, but she's still aclimating to us and learning our line up. In the meantime, our other guitarist says "hey, buddy of mines band called me up cause they got some gigs lined up, and I could use the money. Won't affect what I'm doin' for ya'll but would it be ok if I took em up on the offer?" We all said, heck yes! Go for it! Money talks ;) So far, it's not affected our band at all and it may actually be opening up some opportunities for our band too! So... win win! :)

A bass player I work with has said it's gonna be like the roaring 20s again, when everything does finally open up.

I do think live stuff will be big, and I think the best bands will tend to monopolize that.

    You heard it here, folks

That’s awesome. Nothing better than being in a good band situation.

Our first gig for this year is April 24th.
It feels like a long time, and I guess it has been. We stay in touch with one another via a band group text but I bet we are rusty as a group.

Excellent! It's good to play again with actual people.

Extra points for the use of schlep. I've never heard it used in Wisconsin, ever. Are you not from WI, originally?

I am totally an original Sconnie. The real Wisconsin-born and raised in central Wisco.
Madison isn't, really. As the rest of the state says; "Madison is 77 square miles surrounded by reality" :)
So you will have those "schleps" and such, here

Got it. I've been going back and forth to see family in Mad city since the mid-60s, but haven't experienced much outside of that spot. Have a New Glarus Spotted Cow on me, bud!
