What a horrible way to treat another human being.

I have a feeling in the long run you will be much better off...

Meh, you’ll get a better job soon enough. Don’t let it stress you out too much, man. It can be scary, but it lights a fire under your butt to look for the better job you should have been looking for all along.

Totally agree - the really lame thing here is that he seemed to enjoy the job mad other workers before before this “gentleman” got employed and started canning good workers

That's why horrible companies often have to significantly bribe former employees not to reveal their horribleness on Glassdoor, Indeed and social media.

It's as simple as getting a referral from the local bar association for an employment attorney and paying for a one hour consultation, which may be at a reduced price.

I got such a consultation for free. Their advice was to take the substantial bribe I was being offered in exchange for not saying anything and move on with my life.

Using that non-specific lingo ("vision for the company"?) is evidence that it's just a capricious firing with no basis in performance, qualifications, or any other meaningful criterion. We all encounter deficient individuals who lack principle, and that's what this appears to be. I'm sorry for the disruption it causes for you. I'm all for a free capitalist system, but it does create room for crappy people to do crappy things when they are in position to do so.

Is it too late to teach them the meaning of the word "defenestration"?

Might I suggest that HR departments (formerly known as Personnel) have more allegiance to the management than the employee. After all, who pays their salary... And they know the employment law/watertight legal loopholes in advance of whatever's about to happen.
    Commiserations with the OP.

I gave up on the concept of company loyalty long ago.

I now view employment as an equal exchange, I give them my time and effort and, in return, they adequately compensate me.

If the employer drops the ball in regard to compensating me, then the relationship is headed for an end.
