I totally lucked out kloojing (sic) an alder bodied/rosewood neck tele together with a Broadcaster pu (and a SD vintage stack ryhthm) and a cheap six barrel bridge! I think the 500K pots really saved the highs and it sounds airey and crisp.

Sounds and plays killer! Who'd a thunk?
Next I'm going to LockTite the cheap saddles once everything settles in.

Now: please check in with your opinions all -

I scored a light ash aftermarket tele body (I almost always prefer ash, but I'm totally happy with the alder guitar, mentioned above) for cheap, and want to build up something pretty versatile.
I favor maple necks, but the body is cool lookin' shot with Deft and I'm thinking of running sans pickguard. So maybe another rosewood neck (I haven't ordered anything yet) for look's sake.
I like three saddle bridges w vintage style ashtray style bases, but was wondering about Callaham stainless?

I know everything is a blend of ingrediants and don't want to get ridiculously bright sounding (ss on ash).

I'm thinking about another Broadcaster pu because I fear a '54 lead or Fender vintage might be too bright.

I'm also looking for a good Jazz sound on the neck pu.

The Lollar Charlie Christian lookin' tele neck pu looks intriguing. Anybody play one? On what kind of body and bridge?
Thanks advancely.

Gosh Steve. How quickly are you turning over partscasters? You might need to seek help.

I also look for a jazzier tone on the neck pickup and from the guitar as a whole - although I tend to Thinline bodies.

FWIW, the purple Tele in the avatar now has a Callaham bridge. It replaced a StewMac vintage with compensated saddles. The Callaham looks a lot smarter but I'm not hearing any difference in tone.

The Broadcaster is a nice pickup for the bridge position if you don't want too much brightness, but I think that it's important to take the opportunity to experiment a bit if you're building a partscaster. I have been happy with Fralin Steel Pole Tele Replacements - and with these , you don't need to rout.

I cannot comment on the Lollar Charlie Christian. My last partscaster has a SD Vintage P90 in the neck position which sounds good.

If I was building one more (which I'm not), I'd be very tempted to try one of those Benedetto humbuckers that I have seen in the StewMac catalog.

In terms of timber, you might note that my last Thinline has an all maple body and maple neck with pau ferro fretboard and doesn't sound that bright - except when I turn on the JD in the bridge position. It used to have a mahogany neck wit a rosewood board. There was no appreciable difference when I switched.

I think that I am coming to the view that the major determinants of tone are body style - hollow or solid, and then pickups and tone circuit.

RN

PS Actually I am building one more partscaster, but its for my son. It's a solid body in wild maple on alder with a hot P90 in the neck and a quarter pounder in the Callaham bridge - and the leftover mahogany neck.

Sure!
I had a Telesonic.

But, I have scored a set of Cystom shop Texas Specials, a TBX tone setup, and a four-way switch.

Still looking for a neck, but I may have found one.

I got a three brass saddle vintage style bridge for it.

Re:Thinline Teles with CC Neck Pups

Steve Y -

i dinna read the whole thread...but got to Robin's post
and said to myself,if Steve ain't tried a CC neck pup
it's time he did.

ask maggie o.
or tele295...
...or...

i also agree with Robin's Thinline suggestion.
i know you had the (chambered)Telesonic for a while,
but unless that left a bad taste(was it actually a short scale/24.75"??),
a semi-hollow Tele is a very sweet thing indeed.

check out maggie o's:
