Got this a few days ago. I think it's a 2009, previous owner put the blackguard on it. Really nice weight and nice to play. Already planning on ditching the Tex Mex pickups though! I've come around 180 degrees on those, just can't seem to find any around for a reasonable price. Congrats! What are you going to put into it for pups? Are you keeping the black?

I'm keeping the blackguard yes. I'm not sure about pickups yet, I'd love a set of Bare Knuckle flat 50s or 52s but they will cost me the best part of £150. I might try a Seymour Duncan broadcaster bridge pickup and leave the neck for now.

    Congrats!

Like Coop47, I've gone 180-degrees. Unlike him, :D I did find one back in August (mine is from '08). I intended just to keep it while I was a on a job out of state, but could not part with it! It came with someone having swapped the pickups (mine has Budz Purebreds in it), and they'd had a really nice fret job done. It had Wilkinson saddles, but I went back to the steel. I go back and forth between white-guard and black-guard.

I love all my guitars, but this one sits on the floor in a stand and gets played a lot. I still don't like the fingerboard aging, but rather than futz around and try to 'fix' it I just ignore it now and play. And enjoy.

    And you do likewise!!!

That's great, hngd to you. Did the older versions have more wear on them? The newer ones I've seen recently seem to have a lot less.

Yep, much more especially on the neck. Got an '08, wouldn't part with it for anything.

I wonder why they have stopped doing the wear so heavy.

welcome to the club ! i think these are great guitars for the price. i got mine a year or so back and still have it stock. i hear a lot (maybe 100% of those who get one) say they don't like the pickups.... but for some reason i like 'em.... and i am a compulsive pickup swapper. it's almost like those pickups don't have the "most" anything.... (not the most treble, or bass, or midrange)... but they have a really good compromise on everything. Maybe i'm nuts.

anyway - they're awesome.. maybe need some fret cleanup - but for the price, ya can't beat the feel of 'em.

    enjoy!

I don't hate the pickups, there's just others I prefer, and some I would like to try.

How about these. Well under £100 and pretty good by all accounts.

Great looking Tele. I agree with the Lollars, they come in Nash Tele's and I'm itching to try a set.

Because people like me (and a lot of others on this forum and other places) kept moaning about the fakey-looking relic work on the necks. And it is fakey looking and even above in my post I did mention it ... again. So they listened .. and now it doesn't look like that anymore. I've never seen one of the newer ones 'in the flesh' ... so I can't tell you how it compares.

However, it's what Fabienne said in 'Pulp Fiction': It's unfortunate what we find pleasing to the touch and pleasing to the eye is seldom the same. True with this neck ... perhaps the best neck of any guitar I have, in terms of how it feels.

Played one of the Road Worn Strats and it was really nice. Never seen one of the teles in person that I recall though..
