The only responses I've gotten from the Laptop, wifi-hacking package, bike and guitar I have up there have been from scammers.

I've even had an african guy call me about the laptop with the EXACT same script!!!?

Do these idiots really believe people still fall for this crap??

There has to be an alternative to selling things outside of Ebay or a lawn sale?

Because people do still fall for this stuff. As long as they're not arrested/executed and it's still mainly free to do it, people will continue to try to scam folks out of money/stuff.

I sold something recently and got a ton of these responses but even worse were the people trying to trade useless crap. When you state in your ad that A, B, and C and the ONLY things you will consider in a trade why do people insist on sending messages saying "I have a Crate cab with an 8 inch speaker, would you take that as a straight up trade for your Strat?"

    Then there was this exchange:
Him: "I know you said you were only interested in A, B, or C in trade but would you consider an Epi Les Paul Studio?"
Me: "I own a Gibson Les Paul (Traditional) so I have less than no interest in an Epi, especially not a Studio."
Him: "So I take it that means no?"
    Me: "Yes."
Him: "So that means you are interested?"
    Me: "I said no, I wasn't."
Him: "But then you said yes."

When I sell, I realize CL buyers have limited deductive and communicative powers mainly consisting of saying "isitanygood" "that's too much", "will you take a hunert fer it?" and of course "doyastillhavit." So, I never offer trade choices of any kind, it just offers a further distraction from what usually is something akin to asking a ditch digger his opinion of the Metropolitan Oprah.

    Unintentional irony?

Or is Oprah a woman of many parts?

I put my GO Pro Hero2 camera up for $180.00 last night and got an offer for $100 and he could come right over and get it.

Sold a Blues Jr. today and got my asking price, cash money, no hassle deal at all.

Sometimes it's good, sometimes it's not so good.

You know I can't spell for crap, but hey what I put there will do just fine! I'm OK with it! Oprah is OK with it, we're tight, she buys some stuff now and then. Oprah ya gotta admit is pretty metropolitan. So is ice cream, sometimes.

If you have a good music store in town, you might put it on consignment.

This is why my house and garage are full of so much crap - I hate the hassle of selling stuff. I still have my old car to get rid of, rusting away out there. Must...sell...crap...soon...

This also has a corollary - the person who asks a fortune for something because he/she paid said fortune for it, didn't use it, and now won't haggle. Someone recently listed a camera lens I wanted at too high a price and the conversation went something like this:

"I'm interested in your lens, but the price is really high"
"Sorry, I can't come down on the price much"
"But I can get the lens from xxx in excellent condition for 1/3 less than your price with a guarantee"
    "Why don't you then?"
(I was sitting on xxx site anyway, checking prices)
"[click. click.] I just did! Thanks, anyway."

Sometimes it's really not worth the bother to go through CL ads. For all I know that lens may still be listed. The one I got from the online dealer looks like it was just out of the box and the glass is perfect.

Shops around here charge 30% on consignments, that's the worst deal going. Plus they seem to be not interested in keeping you in the loop or doing much work for the 30%.

When you post your ads, do you post the specs of the things you sell?
Maybe by me doing that I'm confusing people or something and scaring them off.

I have a habit of including all the pertinent information for the device/item in the ad. Maybe I should stop that...:?:

Are you claiming that someone who works hard for a living couldn't possibly have a valid opinion in regards to opera?

Who do you see fit to have an opinion on opera?
