Said goodbye to Ernie last night. He was featured in several of my posts here over the years. He entered the hospital Saturday night, they found he was dying of liver, kidney & possibly heart failure, and he lasted only three days in hospice. Glad I was able to be with him these last days. I met Ernie about 1955. I think about the only disagreement I ever had with him was in 1957, when he tried to steal a bee I’d spotted first. I conked him over the head with a sack of coffee can lids. I quickly regretted that decision, but even back then he took mercy on me. He was by my side no matter where I went or what I did all these years. He was a positive constant in my life no matter what, and I shall miss him every minute of every day as long as I live. RIP Ernie.
