Said goodbye to Ernie last night. He was featured in several of my posts here over the years. He entered the hospital Saturday night, they found he was dying of liver, kidney & possibly heart failure, and he lasted only three days in hospice. Glad I was able to be with him these last days.

I met Ernie about 1955. I think about the only disagreement I ever had with him was in 1957, when he tried to steal a bee I’d spotted first. I conked him over the head with a sack of coffee can lids. I quickly regretted that decision, but even back then he took mercy on me.

He was by my side no matter where I went or what I did all these years. He was a positive constant in my life no matter what, and I shall miss him every minute of every day as long as I live. RIP Ernie.

Sorry to hear about your loss. I haven't lost any close friends in recent years, but at my age, I know it's going to start before long.

Sorry for your loss. (hope that doesn't sound trite or insincere) My graduating high school class has an "In Memorium" page online....I check it occasionally and it's sad how long that list is getting. Many of them I was aware when they passed, but some catch me off-guard and by surprise. Many, like you, Stubee, I've known since kindergarten or first grade....kids I first met over sixty years ago....I don't live in the past, but a lot of our memories mean so damn much....

Sounds like Ernie was a good man and a good human being and a good friend.

And I happen to think he had mighty good taste in who he chose in life as his friend.

    Take care.

Ernie is standing right in front of the teacher, probably so she could keep an eye on him. He was a very difficult student at times.

I’m the good boy standing second from the right.

I'm sure you were a good boy for the picture...but how long did that last?:D

Once again, thanks for sharing your sadness and the photos. I hope all the thoughts of the good times will help to heal the hurt.

Sorry you lost Ernie. You probably eased his transition by being there, like always, at his side at the end. Small consolation, but we can only do what we can. God bless and comfort you, Ernie's other friends and family.
